Religion and religious traditions are a present force in driving human behaviors, beliefs and social influence around the world. Although religion means something different to those of faith, it carries a vast and influential movement of moral and ethical standards that guide the way for humans. With such a wide range of belief systems, religion is also has a complex set of spiritual and cultural rules and rituals.
Human relationships and interactions are driven by the principals of those of faith. One’s god or divine being has a direct link to the driving force of human interaction. The divine is said to be of, from, or belonging to god and having a relationship with the divine helps the individual live according to the laws of the religion with which he or she associates. Many will argue a relationship with the divine is both subjective and highly theoretical, but for others this relationship can be a genuine, undeniable connection. In reality, the way in which an individual connects with a higher power has the potential to create the most honest, authentic relationship a human can experience simply because it is organic and unaffected.
An individual’s relationship with a divine power often depends on many events and teachings that he or she has experienced through life. This relationship between an individual and the divine can manifest in many ways including the individual assuming the role of an obedient child of God who recognizes his or her imperfections and therefore willingly asks for forgiveness for all sins committed. The relationship could also take form of reservation or skepticism. Many individuals grapple with idea of the existence of a higher power. As unhappy and even tragic events happen in a person’s life, he or she often doubts whether or no the divine truly exists. But the mystique and discourse of this existence is a fundamental aspect of religion. “All religions are concerned with the deepest level of reality, and for most religions the core or origin of everything is sacred and mysterious.” (M. Molloy, 2010 Ch 2 pg. 3).

The core of religion is faith-based, which means its meaning and purpose is found within the person following such faith. What is sacred is found in the
value of objects, founding principles, and ceremonies that acknowledge the presence of its higher being. Sacred time for many religions is cherished differently; it can allow believers to become connected with his or her thoughts through prayer, meditation, and or sacrifice. Some religions also have a sacred place, such as temples and synagogues, or land that is used to bring followers together to worship or celebrate their religion, while others may used sacred ground, structures or natural environments to perform rituals and initiations into the religion.
One of the more important connections among religious followers is to respect the values and beliefs of the differences in views and practices. Respect for the religion that a person chose to follow, respect for other religions that believe or accustom to doing things different, and respect for all people. Many religions provide a guideline for people to follow through their life to help with decisions and everyday events that may occur, but because there is no script for what happens in our lives, a person’s faith is often challenged. The strength of their faith often determines their response to critical decisions in life. In some religions, the strength of faith keeps people from harming others for violent acts and in some cases, those of faith will often forgive others for their behavior.

Within religious studies, the more critical issues occur when perception and opinion come into play. Early religious studies were known to be quite difficult because of the inability to travel. Scholars and researchers weren’t able to travel to sacred places or partake in religious ceremonies thus forcing these individuals to rely on the reports and opinions of others regardless of bias or altered reports. Another area of concern for religious studies was a lack of written scripture which lead to variations and modifications as the stories and ceremonies were being performed or conveyed. These variations lead to inconsistencies even within the same religion.
In conclusion, the relationships with religion and whether or not a person follows one is something the person himself or herself will have to take a very good look at personally and ask are they happy with the way they are
living and if they had a relationship with a certain religion would it make them a better person.
