Remember the Titans is a movie about a white football team that starts allowing black people to join the team. Coach Yoast is the white football leader, who shows his leadership by gaining respect and always letting the team speak their mind. Coach Boon is the black football leader who takes over Yoast’s job. Boone shows leadership by punishing the team until they complete something to his standards. Gerry is the captain of the football team and shows leadership by influencing them to say what they want and to have their opinion on everything. Remember the Titans is a movie about leadership, teamwork and the coming together of blacks and whites. Coach Boone is a black football coach who was transfered to T.C Williams High, to take the place as coach for the Titans. He had moved to the town after his last job was taken away from him by a white man, purely because he was white. Coach Boone was a tough leader. He didn’t care what the others though, he had a plan and he stuck by it. In the movie, he wanted his team to suceed and he knew in order to do well, they had to respect one another and get along. The Titans went on a camp in the begining of the movie for training.
Coach Boone told them to learn a few things from each other or they would have to train three times a day. He also made them train with no water breaks because they had a fight over race issues. He gave the team a lot of speeches, one of them was about the Gettyburg battle where countless lives had been lost because black and whites had refused to unite. The team and coach Yoast were inspired by Coach Boone’s impassioned speech. In one of the games, Petey, the Quaterback had been yelled at by Coach Boone, resulting in him wanting to leave the team. Although Coach Boone had been fired from his last job because a white man wanted that position, he shows respect to all who have earned it, even Coach Yoast who had gone against Boone’s wishes numerous times. Coach Boone is a transactional leader because he started with having the Titans agreeing to obey him, then punished them if they didn’t meet his standards. Coach Yoast is the ex-coach of T.C Williams High when Coach Boone takes his job. Coach Yoast unwillingly stays behind and helps Coach Boone as his assistant. Coach Yoast is a caring leader. He doesn’t have to prove a point as he already had respect from the team. Although he doesn;t have high expectations, he still trains the team just as hard as Coach Boone. In the movie, Gerry and other team mates run to join a riot against blacks. On their way, Coach Yoast intercepts them and gets them to come back with him as they would get in trouble if they went along with the riot. In one of their games, Petey had decided to quit but Coach Yoast had changed his mind with his kind words. Even when Coach Boone was taking Coach Yoast’s position, he still considered his teams opinion. He was a democratic leader and let them have their word. Coach Yoast let Coach Boone slide into Head Coach position when everyone else was having a go at Coach Boone. He didn’t turn into one of those people who hated Coach Boone for his skin colour. In the begining of the movie, Coach Yoast was somewhat disgusted by the fact a black man was taking his job, and by the end of the movie, he had gained so much respect for Coach Boone and the rest of the black community. Gerry Bertier was the captain of the white team and Coach Yoast’s favorite player. Gerry had a lot of ideas and liked to speak his mind.

When he found out a black person was going to be the Coach of the Titans, he was outraged. Gerry was also a big influence on the team. At the meeting where everyone found out about Coach Boone, he was the first one to speak his mind. As soon as he spoke those words, the team agreed with him and the room was filled with a huge roar from the team. Gerry was a very determined guy. He was determined to have only white people on the team, deteermined to stay captain and win every game he can. He was determined to prove a point. Although he was a great captain for the Titans before they decided to intergrate black people into the team. Gerry only started rethinking the way he treated black people was when Coach Boone had made the team go on a run, stopping at Gettysburg, and giving them a speech about what had happened there.
Afterwards, Julius and Gerry had spoken, with Julius ending the conversation by saying “attitude reflects leadership”. Meaning, the team’s attitude was just a mimic of Gerry’s. Soon after, he begins changing his attitude towards the other race. Everyone had come together except for Ray, Gerry’s bestfriend. As the team captain, Gerry had to kick Ray off the team. Ray wasn’t pleased about this and had told Gerry he had changed. Gerry was an autocratic leader, because he shows high levels of power over his team. He is a huge influence on the Titans. Remember the Titans is about leadership and the community of whites and blacks connecting. The three main characters in the movie did show a lot of leadership throughout the movie if it wasn’t for Coach Boones and Coach Yoast. Garry wouldn’t have come to shwo respect for blacks and the team wouldn’t either, which means the community would still be black and whites despising each other.
