Fashion week ventured outside for much awaited finale of the first day. With the catwalk above seated height, the sorbet tones of the collection popped out perfectly against the night sky. Tangerine orange, scarlet red and candy pink where the colors of the moment, occasionally mixed with pale grey or metallic silver. Pratap’s take on the shirt dress was shown in many ways: Double layered, hooded, plain and printed. Often teamed with oversized, clear Perspex necklaces and bracelets. Later came butterfly embroidery and dragonfly print to enhance the outdoor feel. Iridescent winged, silver butterflies were woven on to both dresses and jackets alike. Silver fish scale leggings added to the metallic palette. Sporty waist coats came in white airtex leather and fuchsia pink taffeta, and were teamed with geometric print, light cotton dresses. An established favourite of the fashion crowd buyers, press and shoppers alike, the designer not only pleased, but thrilled his audience once again.

Rajesh Pratap Singh, known for his sense of minimalism, outshines his virtue every time. Starting with chaotic music, he slowly shifts to a peppy note. Held in an open area, the show once again suited the theme and the ideology. The shapes were a mix of traditional and contemporary, striking an optimum balance. The palette had a mix of soft pinks, oranges, grays and metallic. The traditional drapes like sarees, dhotis were skillfully teamed with sleeker belts. Short dresses with kaftans sleeves gave a hint of practicality, keeping in mind the hi-tech lifestyle. Ikkat has a new meaning now—flamboyant! The rich medium, which is known in Indian history, needs such treatments more often. The tunics had smocked yokes with self colored threads. The solids were highlighted with contrast linear bands running in vertical and horizontal order. A sense of freedom and frivolity was depicted by dragon fly and butterfly motifs, which were meticulously embroidered and thrown on rich orange, pink and grey bases.

Rajesh Pratap Singh: For summer 2012 Rajesh presented a vibrant range of contemporary women’s wear in yarn dyed Ikats in silk. The fabric was specially designed and produced in Orissa and the Sambhalpur Bastralaya under a project Rajesh executed with Rita Kapoor Chisti and Rakesh Thakore of A&T fame at the behest of Dir. Handlooms.
According to Rajesh “The initiative was not just about the visual appeal and structural perfection. It was an attempt to initiate a dialogue on the relevance of handloom and handmade in the country steering towards the hi-tech and the co-existence of the hi-tech with handmade” With flamboyant colors and enlarged proportions the designer has taken Ikats from local landscape to global trajectory.
The silhouettes remained simple with minimal cuts no fuss, no embellishments yet intriguing. Shirts and jackets were teamed with shorts and trousers. Tops in kaftan shapes and dresses with kaftan sleeves gave a new styling direction to western wear. Ease and comfort prompted asymmetric styles and fabric design guided the cuts and detailing. Draped dhoti shorts, Ikat saree and bright colors added Indian spirit to the collection.
The palette was a mix of flame red, pink orange, grey and metallic. Solid fabrics were enhanced with contrast borders and bands in linear streaks. Dragon fly and butterfly motifs adorned the fabrics in a lighthearted mode. The show was sponsored by TaTa Manza. Rajesh will partner with TaTa Motors to enhance the design and stylize the interiors and exteriors of the Tata Manza.
