The United States national security is of vital significance to the American people. There are various security organs that have been mandated with various tasks of gathering and analyzing intelligence information and ensuring that this information is acted upon to ensure that the US soil and its citizens are safe from any malicious attack. This is also geared towards promoting US policies worldwide. All this has been made possible by the formation of various intelligence bodies that have different responsibilities in gathering and dissemination of intelligence data.
These organs together with the president of the United States play various roles in ensuring that they and their allies are safe. These organs include; National Security Council, NSC, and Director of National Intelligence, DNI. The Director of National Intelligence, DNI, has various responsibilities towards providing intelligence information. According to Pegarkov (2006), this position was created with the aim of advancing excellence in the scrutiny of intelligence information, sparked by the September 11 attacks in the US. The Intelligence community is lead by the DNI.
The DNI gives guides the President on intelligence information, as well as the Homeland Security Council. The agendas of National Intelligence are supervised and directed by the DNI. The DNI focuses both on foreign and local intelligence with the aim of sharing information in the Intelligence Community so as to prevent attacks on America such as the ones on September 11. The DNI is also charged with counterintelligence whereby the methodologies of gathering information are kept secure (pg 49. ).

DNI is not the only body involved in the work of intelligence.
There is also the National Security Council. NSC is a platform where the president takes into consideration issues that concern the security of the American people. Though it is presided over by the president, the NSC gives counsel to him concerning security policies and issues. The military consultant to this body is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff while the DNI provides intelligence counsel (National Security Council).
There is also the president who is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces. He is also concerned with the security issues of the nation.
Ensuring that America and its people are secure is the main precedence of the president. Using the resources at his disposal, which have been provided by the tax payers money, the president has to guarantee that American borders are protected and secure from any threat that will intimidate the American people and compromise on their safety. Together with the intelligence community, the President ensures that there are measures to prevent, react and counter any threat that is posed to the American people, as well as setting up rescue services incase of a crisis.
This is done by always keeping himself informed on intelligence information gathered by the intelligence organs of government security (The White House).
While in the past the Intelligence Community has done tremendous work towards ensuring that the US and its citizens are secure, there are various inputs that need to be put in place to ensure that it is even more effective. There is need to develop new technologies in countering terrorism since the terrorists are also using hi-tech strategies that need superior technology to deal with. This will mean doing more research in their technology department.
There are also the strategies that they have been used in the past. These strategies must be developed further to improve on their approach to intelligence work.
