Role Call Tonight is a rough night. You could cut the tension on the floor with a butter knife. Our floor is short staffed and there are not enough doctors and nurses to take care of all the patients. The power has gone out and we are not able to use all of the necessary equipment needed to take care of the patients properly. I am scheduled to work as a volunteer tonight on Two North labor and delivery. As I sit there helplessly wondering what I can do or how I can help I reflect on how I became a volunteer.
I was attending a catholic high school at the time and part of the graduation requirement was to complete forty hours of service by the time you graduated. At the beginning of my junior year of high school I decided it would be a good time for me to get moving on my service hour requirement. I thought that having to do the service hours was going to be a big pain because at the time I was not interested in helping anyone but myself. So when I was looking for a place to volunteer, I tried to pick a place that I had some interest in. I selected a volunteer program at a local hospital near my home.
At my volunteer orientation I was given a survey about what my interests were in the medical field. On my survey it asked me where I wanted to work. I instantly knew that I wanted to work on the Labor and Delivery floor because I love babies. When my survey was returned I found out that I was placed on a cardiac care floor. I was upset with my placement so I went and asked if I could change floors to a different floor. The supervisor informed me that the labor and delivery was all full but the high risk labor and delivery was looking for a volunteer.
The Essay on Package Delivery Traffic Time Solution
Executive Overview There is a definite desire for better traffic data to give drivers more choice and control for avoiding traffic congestion. And what's more, today there is no viable solution to alleviate the unnecessary aggravation and minimize the loss of valuable time & money. Interviewing a sample of commuter, taxi, and package delivery drivers identified a demand for timely and readily ...
I quickly said that I would love to work there. I have always thought that was placed on that floor for a reason because I fit in so well. I have learned so much from volunteering at the hospital. You really don’t know how bad life can get until you see it first hand at an intercity hospital.
It is crazy to think that some people come into the hospital not because they are sick but because they want to get away from their home life or they want to get a fix from some kind of drug. When you work at a hospital you have to be ready for whatever comes your way. The first night I worked at the hospital I was so scared that I never wanted to come back. A fight broke out in our triage area. Not knowing what to do I dialed security. When I noticed things where getting out of hand I jumped in between the two men that were fighting.
I think that I must have been out of my mind. Ever since then people knew me as the girl that was not afraid of anything. I was good because everyone respected me. No other night compares to this night. I am just a volunteer but I am being forced to do tasks of a nurse. There are not enough nurses to assist the doctors so I have to assist the doctors.
I am so scared right now, but I think that my fearless attitude is kicking in because I am suddenly doing things without even thinking I am doing them because I know that they have to be done. I think that my role as a volunteer makes me a better person, because it makes me better-rounded. I started volunteering more and more. When I was bored, I would just drive up to the hospital and volunteer my time.
It was almost like I worked there full time. I thought that they would get sick of me at the hospital but they never did. At the end of my senior year of high school I was honored for my work as a volunteer. The Hurley foundation voted me student volunteer of the year for logging over one thousand hours of service.
The mayor of my city granted me the Mayor’s Youth Service Award. My high school granted me an award and I was chosen to make a speech to incoming freshman on how important volunteer work is. Volunteering made me explore my other interests and volunteer in other fields that I was interested in. Ever since I was little I have always been interested in the government. In high school I took many classes on government. I soon realized that it is very important to play a active roll in your local, state, and federal government.
The Homework on Volunteer Work 2
The definition of volunteer work is n altruistic activity with intentions of better someone else without financial earnings, but with the satisfaction of self-worthiness and self-respect. Many kids today help others outside of school for many reasons. Volunteer work looks great on college applications and stands out because not every high school student does volunteer work. Now ask yourself, if ...
My first step to being an active citizen was to volunteer to help with a campaign. I found a candidate that was accepting student volunteers. My friends and I emailed her and asked if we could help with her campaign. She emailed us back and said she would be very happy if we would help her. Our job was to stand out in front of a school where voting was taking place and to hand out candy and try to persuade people to vote for our candidate.
It was a good time and I learned a lot about how someone gets voted into office. It was also exciting because our candidate won. Being a good citizen always involves making your community a better place. I live in a suburb of Flint… I was determined to make my community a better place. I noticed that a park that used to be really nice had become very dirty.
Due to budget cuts the city could no longer afford to keep it clean. I went to a city meeting and asked if it would be ok if I organized a city park clean up. The city council agreed that it would be a good idea to have a city park clean up. I went to local stores and asked for their help. I found people to do everything from donating supplies to letting me post signs in their stores.
The clean up was a success. As a citizen you have to be able to take a stand. I took a stand in my community by speaking out against drug and alcohol. My senior year of high school I was selected to be a DARE role model. DARE stands for drug abuse resistance education. Part of being a DARE role model was to go to local middle schools and talk to kids about how drinking alcohol and doing drugs was bad.
I thought this was important because when an adult tells you not to do drugs you do not really take to heart what they have to say. When a person that is older than you tells you not to do something you really take what they have to say seriously. I know that the kids, really took to heart what I said to them because I bonded with them. I didn’t talk to them like they were stupid kids I talked to them like I would talk to one of my friends. Being a good citizen is a good role for me because I am a good leader and I really had to work really hard to make my community a better place.
The Essay on Dual Roles Good Deeds
Dual Roles In many stories, it is often noticed that the writers use an allegorical figure to demonstrate abstract qualities as actual people. In these stories the allegorical figure holds a name that will tell you what his character is supposed to be representing. The allegorical figure is a cunning and unique way of taking a characteristic or an object and making it come alive to the readers. ...
One of the things that I work my hardest at is waterskiing. My dad and I do not have many things in common. One of the things that we have in common is that we both love to water ski. My dad taught me how to water ski when I was just four years old.
I have been skiing even since then. When I water ski it is like nothing else maters I ski my heart out and I leave everything else aside. I may not be the best water skier but I sure get a high from it. Water skiing has taught me that if you want something bad enough that you should just go for it.
My favorite event in a water skiing competition is the slalom event. It is the easiest event for me to complete because I have been doing it for so long. I have practiced a lot to become the water skier that I am today. I attend water ski clinics in the summer and during any breaks that I have in school. This summer I hosted my own ski clinic in Clearwater, FL.
I was really nervous about it but I because I have such great leadership roles everything turned out great. This fall I will be competing in Texas at the National Water Ski tournament. I am really looking forward to it but it requires a lot of time and practice. My dad is very proud of me too. Water skiing is a great sport and I am very happy to be a part of my water ski team. I play a lot of different roles in my life.
I believe I am able to play so many roles because I am a truly empowered person. I see what I want and I go for it and with when it gets hard I work harder. That is why I think I am an excellent role player. I see what I want and I go for it..
