I choose to describe the putative relationship between Adam and Caroline in the movie “Untamed Heart.” It starts off with Caroline in a just ending relationship where she is hung up on the guy that left her. Her friends call her on it and help her refrain from trying to repair it. This guy Adam is a hard working, quiet, shy, very shy especially around Caroline, because he has a serious infatuation about her. Every thing she does he studies. In the beginning of the movie it starts out that he has a deep infatuation with her. He even follows her home without her even knowing, until one day she was almost getting raped, and he saved her because of his infatuation for her.
She bandaged him up in her woman caring way and he couldn’t even speak. He just stares at her with a blank look. He has analyzed all of her properties and likes his infatuation of her. In Nozick’s Chapter “Love Bond” he describes what romantic love is and what it is not. I thought this would be a good movie to relate it to because it’s a romantic love story, about a guy that has a serious infatuation of creating a we with Caroline, who is played by Marissa Tomei.
Christian Slater plays the guy Adam. For the remainder of this essay I will refer to them by Adam and Caroline. I reinforce my view that Adam has an infatuation or crush on Caroline because he’s always thinking of her, watching her when she doesn’t know. He’s just daydreaming of the we he would like to create with Caroline. This relates to the way Nozick said, “Love, romantic love, is wanting to form a we with that particular person, feeling, or perhaps wanting, that particular person to be the right one for you to form a we with, and also wanting the other to feel the same way about you.” The guys that tried to rape her obviously had an infatuation with her, for her characteristics only, her looks. Which turned out to be very unhealthy, but gave Adam his chance to prove his love for Caroline.
The Essay on Bollywood Movies: Why Many People Love Bollywood Movies
What makes Bollywood movies surge high in the entertainment business? What makes Bollywood movies unique from other movies? Find out more about Bollywood movies below. “From the glitziest of entertainment to the sparest of intellectual abstraction, from lavish spectacle to minimalist poetry, issues of gender, of politics, of poverty and plenty, India’s cinema encompasses them all. – Vasudev, ...
He rescues her then takes her home to her house. She learns of his infatuation of her after this, which seemed to spook her but she knew it was in a sincere caring way. But I mean following her home, and it took him awhile to get the courage to save her from being raped exposing his infatuation. Sure enough they start hanging out until she realizes some of his properties, and she cherishes them. This draws her into a romantic love relationship. She likes the idea of the we with Adam.
Her love for him didn’t start out as an infatuation but maybe she thought that she could pay him back for saving her with her love. Then through out the movie she tells her friend of how she is dating Adam, this relates to what Nozick says about becoming a couple. In the middle of the movie the guys that tried to rape Caroline stab Adam. He ends up having this baboon heart that she somewhat knew about, but who would have a infatuation for someone with a baboon heart? Not her, that’s why I thought this romantic love relationship kind of drew a line in what Nozick said about both sides wanting to create this we or become a couple. Also that having a baboon heart is not really what Caroline would consider a good property right away. So I think she ends up in this romantic relationship because of some other reasoning.
The Essay on True Love Or Infatuation
Many different types of love play an important role in the world today. True love and infatuation coexist to make up love that can occur between a man and a woman. Although true love and infatuation may appear similar on the surface, they actually reside on opposite ends of the spectrum. Many young people today have experienced infatuation, but only a select few have actually experienced true ...
Not because of his properties, like in e-love. I think it’s a-love, Caroline loves him because she finds out he’s no different than anyone of us, until he gets stabbed and needs a new heart transplant. She has no rational explanation as to why she loves him when she tells her best friend that she is dating Adam. Nozick stated also that when in a romantic love relationship, if one partner is down or sad the other is usually the same.
They are dependant on the other. If there isn’t any dependence, love is not present. This shows that romantic love is the case when he is stabbed because she really feels bad about it. She sort of feels that she is to blame.
Neither Adam nor Caroline have the urge or thought of trading up. They traded up to an additional self, which is the one as a couple or a “we.” Nozick says, “Each person in a romantic we wants to possess the other completely; yet each also needs the other to be an independent and a non subservient person. And, of course, the other’s well-being-something you care about-requires that non subservient autonomy too.” It seems as they slowly develop this romantic relationship with each other it never could get worse, they have added a new entity to the world. Adams infatuation becomes love, or is Adams infatuation love, or does it become a stronger love? I say all of the above, especially stronger because his fantasies come true.
And as Caroline finds out he can fulfill her properties she looks for in a man. Until his heart fails once more this time leading to death. With this loss of his life, Caroline is not whole anymore, she is only herself, that identity of them together is gone. Now she will have to go on with a new identity because the one that was created with Adam is no longer there physically. Where Nozicks view comes falls short of the relationship is when he says that infatuation might hold people together until they are stuck, or in love. Because in this relationship only one had an infatuation on the other.
I totally agree with Nozicks view that if we are in a good situation there should be no reason to ruin it by trading up. Caroline will have a hard time finding the same romantic love she did with Adam because there isn’t anybody who loved her more than Adam, maybe except her parents, which is the unconditional love. Not once through this movie did either one of them seek to trade up; it was all about each other and how they felt. In her experiences after his death she still acts like he is around, like she’s trying to figure out what he would think of this and that. So in the end I have to agree with Nozick that we metamorphose, because Adam metamorphosed into a spiritual existence, not being tangible, but their love was still there, even though he wasn’t. I’m not sure if they ever got married or anything but they moved in to the same house and shared each other’s lives pretty deeply, so this also coincides with Nozicks view of romantic love, the ultimate bond of marriage.
The Essay on Love Vs. Infatuation
Everyone wants to be in love, but very few people know what it means. When someone sees another person he or she is attracted to he or she may think “Oh, my God, I’m in love” but is it real love or just simple infatuation? There is a great difference between love and infatuation, and when trying to determine the difference there are at least three things a person should consider: ...
Nozick doesn’t really say whether or not both sides need to start off with an infatuation, and in this instance it did not. Adam just wanted her to care about him the same way he did about her. It’s a really good example of how infatuation develops into romantic love. I think it began to be love or an interest as to why he followed her around; she was scared at first that Adam might have been like the other guys that had the infatuation for her. Then as she developed trust she identified certain properties that led her to romantic love. Doesn’t every guy usually have the infatuation of getting this or that girl into bed? With Adam and his infatuation it was deeper than that, that’s why everything fell into place for this romantic loving relationship..
