Even though no one likes it, bad luck exists and there is no way to avoid it. Not everything can go the way you want. If something random happens to someone, and it favors them, then this is good luck. Likewise, if something unexpected happens to someone and it is unfavorable then it would be bad luck. “Destiny is no matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved,” this quote means that we have the power to change our destiny thus changing our fate. When Romeo first meets Juliet he knows that she is a Capulet, and still goes on to love her thus changing his fate for the worst. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet shows that fate is in control, but also that it often uses the characters fatal flaws to deepen the predicament.
In the first place, Romeos fatal flaw is that he does things without thought or care. From the very beginning of the story, he does things with out thinking of what trouble he could get into. Such as when the Capulet serving man was sent out to invite people to Capulets feast, he asks Romeo to read it out because he cannot read. Romeo reads out the invite list, but also decides to the to the feast himself, knowing that the Capulets are a foe to his side, the Montague. Secondly Romeo and Tybalt battle out of rage, which worsens the situation because Romeo ends up killing Tybalt. Romeo knew that it would cause some damage in his current state with Tybalts cousin, Juliet. After realizing what he has done Romeo regrets his mistake and says, “O, I am fortune’s fool!” (3.1.142).
The Essay on Beowulf Some Things Change
Some Things Change But Most Remain the Same Masculine values have both changed and remained constant since the writing of Beowulf. The values that Beowulf and the other male characters in the epic put different things such as fast horses, weaponry, and many other things has remained constant throughout time. Though some of their values such as adorning themselves with jewelry has become less of a ...
Finally when Romeo had gotten to the Capulets crypt, instead of being in such a rush to die he could have analyzed Juliet’s body more thoroughly because he says
Death, that hath sucked the honey of thy breath,
Hath had no power yet upon thy beauty.
Thou art not conquered. Beauty’s ensign yet
Is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks,
And death’s pale flag is not advanced there-
(5.3.92-96) Which would have revealed some secrets then the
Friar would have come in time explain everything to Romeo. They are not supposed to love each other because it just so happens that fate strikes again. It’s unlucky for Romeo and Juliet that their families are against each other.
Also, Juliet’s flaws are in the same as Romeo’s. She does things without thinking. You can first notice this in the balcony scene at the beginning of act 2. Juliet keeps questioning Romeo for his love for her, and then rushes him into getting married. Juliet says “If that thy bent of love be honorable,/ thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow,”(2,2,150-151) she says this suggesting that she wants to get married the day after they meet. She has love at first sight with Romeo, and wants to get married to him right away; instead she should have thought about this. She’s only 13, we are 15, she’s not even our age and she’s decided she wants to get married to guy she has known for maybe 2-4 hours. And secondly she wants to kill herself because she cannot live with out Romeo and has to marry Paris. In the end, the final turn out is that she kills herself because she sees that Romeo has died. If Juliet had thought about it, she could have saved her life, and could have found out that she caused her beloved to kill himself.
Lastly we have the Friars flaws, which was one of the biggest parts that lead to The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. The Friar agrees to marry Young Juliet and Romeo, because he “thinks” it will bring the two households together. Had he thought it through fully, he would have foreseen a tragedy such as this one. He also gives Juliet a potion to put her in a short 42-hour coma, which then leads directly to the deaths its self. Fate was the biggest role for all the main incidents in this play. So in a way, nothing that anyone did was their fault. First off we have Romeo and Juliet falling in love but being in different house holds, Romeo’s a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet, meaning that they cant be together. Secondly we have the Capulets serving man. He could of asked a whole bunch of people, and out of all those people it was Romeo. And lastly we have the Friars message to Romeo, because of “random” incident it doesn’t make it in time to him, so he has no idea about the plan.
