In the famous play, Romeo and Juliet,” A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life.” Through out the play of Romeo and Juliet, these two young lovers are very much impacted in making their decisions by two people, the Friar Lawrence and Juliet’s nurse. In this play, Romeo and Juliet have a love, which is completely forbidden. Their families, the Montague’s and Caplets, are fierce rivals, who are relentlessly fighting. The hate of the two families grew into the entire city of Verona where the divides the city, and in the end the two fathers eventually make up and put aside their rivalry, impacted by the maturity of their children. One of the two people impacting the decisions of the lovers is Juliet’s nurse. Nurse is Juliet’s confidante, who knows everything about Juliet, and has raised her since childbirth.
Nurse can help Juliet in some ways, in Act II Scene VI; Nurse is the “middle man” in their relationship. Juliet tells Nurse all the details and secrets of her love with Romeo and gets counsel from this woman, and which she talks with Romeo and repeats the information to Juliet, in order for them to be married. In some ways the Nurse should have told Juliet to marry Romeo. IT is clear that they are in love- and should be married. In another way though, the marriage between the two may be very dangerous. They are risking their relationship with their parents, and their respect by marrying behind their families back.
The Term Paper on Comparison And Contrast Between The Nurse And Friar Lawrence In Shakespeares Romeo And Juliet part 1
Comparison and Contrast between the Nurse and Friar Lawrence in Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is one of the greatest tragedies of all times. It is actually a very sad story about very strong feeling of love by two people: Romeo and Juliet that ends very tragically. There were many characters in the tragedy, positive and negative ones, but we are going to ...
The other person, who impacts the decisions of Romeo and sometimes Juliet, is Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence is the one person Romeo can trust to give him honest and beneficial advice. Most of Romeos friends cant be trusted or aren’t reliable for good and sincere advice for the young man. Friar Lawrence is sworn to secrecy by his profession, but also by his friendship and paternal love for Romeo. This righteous man is sometimes the only man Romeo can turn to. The Friar doesn’t always give the two people good advice, the friar gave Juliet a sleeping potion that would make everyone believe that Juliet was dead, in order for her to be able to escape to Mantua with Romeo.
In some ways this was good, because it enabled the two lovers to be together without barricades, but still, he was going behind their families backs, and leading the Couplets to believe that their daughter was dead. These to people who were the close confidantes of Romeo and Juliet are at times very helpful to the lovers and at other times, not giving the best counsel to them. When Friar Lawrence gave the potion to Juliet, he was risking the chance of her never waking up from her “death.” I believe that the Friar took more risks and gave sometimes more hazardous advice. The nurse however, said to Juliet, “Beshrew my very heart, I think you are happy in this second match, for it excels your first;” -Act III scene v.
In that statement, the nurse told Juliet to marry the county Paris even though she was still in love with Romeo. In conclusion, in the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet, the two advisees caused some fine things and other not so helpful things. The lovers were very much impacted in making their decisions by Friar Lawrence and Juliet’s nurse. Although in the end lovers died, the two families united and learned from the death of their children.
Old Montague and old Capulet let aside their feud, after learning from their children. Finally, after reading this, I would very much agree with the Prince when he said, “for never was a story of more woe then this of Juliet and her Romeo.” Juliet and her Romeo’s story could be less woe-full but because of the actions of Nurse and the Friar, their story ended unfortunately.
