The same-sex marriage bill was introduced by a member of the Australian Greens who pleaded with the government to take into mind that the majority of Australians support same-sex marriage in 2009. So far the issue of same sex marriage is progressing through the Australian legal system. In February 2012 two bills to allow gay marriage in Australia were put into parliament. The bills are essentially the same but no timetable has yet been set for a vote on either bill, however recently the Prime Minister has stated a vote on changing the marriage act was underway for the end of the year on the recent Google+ hangout, showing great promise for the issue to be resolved. The issue of same sex marriage is a trivial issue.
This issue is neither right nor wrong and all parties have a say on it. However through the campaigning of supporting groups and parties the issue has been brought to the surface for the public to see, forcing the government to act on the issue, thus causing bills to be introduced to the government to address the issue. A recent promise from the Prime Minister for which the bills would be voted for by end of the year shows great promise that the issue would be resolved soon.
