Scarcity: good or bad thing There are some things constantly following the development of mankind from its very beginning to the present day. Need was the first thing experienced by man. As far as man was developing, he understood that his needs were growing all the time and it became more difficult to satisfy them. One of the main reasons for this was scarcity. Such a phenomenon appeared right away when primitive people began to seek fire and through the years it evolved along with an idea of needs into the core concept of economics. Scarcity is usually considered as lack of something, for example, resources.
Basically, everything that is valuable is some kind of a resource. However, the quantity of available resources (land, minerals, capital, and time) is scarce as in comparison to our needs, which are constantly increasing. It may seem that scarcity is an extremely negative thing, but as every phenomenon it has certain positive and negative aspects. As a matter of fact, it will be argued that despite its problem-making character, scarcity carries enormous positive effects for the society and its development. It is very uncomfortable to live in the world where everything is limited: money, food, clothes and land. However, our needs and wants are always expanding.
This fact forces us to make very difficult choices concerning how to receive the greatest satisfaction from the scarce resources. These choices are even harder to make when they are made by a wider society. If, for example, a society decides to build new railroad it means that it should forgo another resource, e.g. money and metal. Society cannot produce and save at the same time and has to determine the best possible choice. Many people do not want to live in the world where it is necessary to make choices every single moment and where there always exists a chance that a resource is already exhausted. Famine, unemployment, and inflation are famous results and drawbacks of scarcity. However, those examples are consequences of unsuccessful allocation of limited resources.
The Essay on Economics Resources Economy Society
Economics The study of economics is helpful in several ways. Some of these Iwill comment on. First of all, technology levels affect a societies economy, so by learning what products are produced and how they are produced, you can see how technologically advanced a society is. By examining where the produced goods are sent / used you can get a better idea of what type of government the society is ...
Although nothing can be called perfect, we all want to be as good as possible. This is the reason why people had developed so much. It is natural that there is no perfect world where the resources would be not scarce. What would stimulate the development and what this development would be like, however, if everything is always fully available? The world without scarcity is going to remain the same, without any progress because there would be no stimulators for it to do so. The development of society is very a complicated and ambiguous process, which involves many different aspects. Scarcity is crucial thing for every society to exist and to proceed. There always must be a motivator for the development and scarcity is one of such motivators for the society.
For example, when society faced the scarcity of fuel resources, especially coal and peat, new research studies were held. After that, nuclear power was invented. In general, scarcity is a great motivator to search for the alternatives in everything that is related to the development. It is not simple curiosity, but actually scarcity of resources, which was the real reason for the further space exploration. Scarcity is a very important and controversial aspect of social and economic development. At first sight, such a thing seems to be very negative considering its impact on peoples lives. It makes life difficult and tense.
However, most of the problems caused by scarcity are failures to allocate limited resources. On the other hand, scarcity is a motivating aspect for the development and evolution of every society and country. Scarcity is used as a natural challenge for society to be wealthy and stable. World with scarcity may not perfect, but it is definitely logical and predictable..
