What is school pride? Taking pride in one’s school is important, but what exactly is it? Although it is found in some way on every campus, school pride has not yet been properly defined. Whatever it may be, students demonstrate pride in their school in various ways. Even though the origins of spirit are unknown, students continue to feel the need to show pride towards their school. Illustrations of pride can be seen in numerous places within school life such as: participation in spirit activities, wearing school colors, and representing one’s school through team sports.
As though student involvement was not important enough, parental involvement continues to be a driving force in the well-being of a school. Students, as well as parents, devote their time to countless activities including: spirit week, rallies, red ribbon week, Homecoming, Snack stands, etc. Parental contributions are seen in many aspects of student life, not only in the home but throughout school. In order for kids to be more successful, parents must be actively involved in their achievements. Although parents have always been encouraged to join in the effort to educate their children, involvement is ultimately up to the students. If a student is not driven by the desire to help their school, in most cases, neither are his/her parents.
The Essay on To What Extent Should High School Students Be Allowed To
To What Extent Should High School Students be allowed to Exercise Freedom of Speech While on Campus I think that nowadays to deal with an issue of students free speech rights is a tough problem for High School administrators. The matter is that students free speech is protected by the First Amendment. Thus it means that students are allowed to exercise free speech while on campus. But what should ...
Perhaps the easiest way to show school spirit, wearing school colors is the most common example of pride. As long as students are allowed to dress freely, they will find a creative way to mark their territory. While uniforms are mandatory, most students will go the extra mile when presented with the chance to dress up. Whether it is a goofy costume or a funky hairdo, those with spirit will find a way to incorporate their school’s colors or mascot. Pride can be easily spotted in this way and is not uncommon on any school campus. Those without spirit simply look upon the others with envy, wishing they could be having as much fun. Showing spirit is unmasked, old fashioned fun with a purpose, to bring joy to others.
A route taken by the braver students is team sports. Though they may not realize the magnitude, these students represent their school in a huge way. By simply wearing a team jersey, students stand out as brave and courageous spirit leaders. Often times, students who are afraid to join a school team are those students who lack a strong sense of pride. Provided that a student maintain a good attitude and acceptable grades, he/she is allowed to lead the school as a spirited stand-out. Not only do they make the school proud but they instill in themselves pride for their school. Pride in one’s athletic abilities goes hand-in-hand with pride in one’s academic achievements and surroundings.
To conclude, school life runs a great deal smoother when the people at the head are pleased. When the administration of a school sees the students taking delight in their schools achievements, the administration is left with no less than a sense of pride in itself. In brevity, pride is contagious and without pride school would be monotonous.
