Select a company that you would like to be involved with The company that I would choose is United Airlines. I feel that it is a company that offers opportunities for people with a variety of skills from engineering to customer relations, from advertising to human resources. Whatever qualifications I obtain, in whatever subjects, they could be used in this company. I enjoy working as part of a team as well as making decisions and meeting and dealing with the public. There is the added incentive of the possibility of foreign travel as well as visiting many different parts of the United States. The airline operates more than 3,600 flights each day and travels to countries such as China, Brazil and France, places that I would be unlikely to reach in other companies. Its motto is People travel to work, but here you work to travel.
A different way of looking at things than the way most companies operate. United Airlines has recently revised its Customer Commitment. I would like to work for a company committed to such things as respect, courtesy, economy, fairness and honesty. I do realise that there could be some disadvantages to working for this company it is a very large company and it would perhaps be difficult to be always a small cog in a large machine. There would perhaps be long periods away from home, irregular hours because airlines work around the clock, but these would be balanced by the challenges of meeting with a constant stream of new people with their various needs, physical, administratively and security wise and so on, as well as fitting into a team that changes fairly frequently. It is a company that honestly tells passengers that they wont always be able to meet schedules, due to events and possible obstacles that occur, but which nevertheless seeks to do the best possible to make their clients comfortable, relaxed and respected.

At this stage of my life I am unsure exactly which way I would like my career to go, or even which area I would wish to specialize in, but in a company as large and varied as United Airlines I am sure that there would be opportunities to explore several areas and to undertake training so that I could progress within my career. I would be able to practise such things as decision making and report writing as well as learning how the company operates, learn to define and solve operational problems and learning to work within the companys perimeters. Right from the beginning as an intern I would be expected and expect to travel, because this is a global company, even though identified as American. There would be opportunities to explore new cultures, improve my language skills and learn a multitude of other skills including such things as emergency response planning and implementation as well as more mundane but essential tasks. United Airlines is a well established company of some 80 years in operation and with a potentially fine and secure future. I want to be part of that future..
