Senator Joseph McCarthy (1) The history of twentieth century contains numerous examples of Communists actively striving to undermine socio-political stability in capitalist countries, by assassinating their political opponents, engaging in economic sabotage and sponsoring international terrorism. However, there are also many examples of governmental officials in Western countries being able to effectively deal with Communist infiltrators, while preventing them from destroying societys integrity. One of such examples is the life and political activity of Senator Joseph McCarthy, who helped Americans to realize the very immediate threat, associated with agents of foreign influence being elevated to the position of social prominence in America. Joseph McCarthy was born on November 14, 1908 to the family of Irish-American farmers in Wisconsin. From the early years of his life, he used to take great interest in politics, which defined his political career in later years. Being unable to attend high school on regular basis, like everybody else, because of his work at the farm, he only became graduated when he was 20. From 1930 to 1935, McCarthy studied law at Marquette University in Milwaukee.
He obtained his diploma in 1935 and was immediately admitted to the bar in the same year. In 1942, shortly after the U.S. entered WW2, McCarthy volunteered to join the United States Marine Corps, despite the fact that he was exempted from service, because of his job. McCarthy was stationed in Solomon Islands, while serving as intelligence briefing officer for a dive-bomber squadron. He flew 32 combat missions, for which he was awarded with Distinguished Flying Cross in 1952. In 1946, McCarthy was elected as U.S. Senator from state of Wisconsin; however, it was not until 1950 that McCarthy attained a national fame, because of his famous Wheeling speech, which revealed the full scope of Communist activities that were taking place in this country. McCarthy accused many political figures in America of being on the payroll of international Communism. He was able to substantiate his claims by providing Secretary of the State with names of 205 Liberal politicians in America, who have been reported by FBI as such who liked socializing in the company of Soviet diplomats and most of which accidentally happened to be representatives of chosen people.

Minister Wieczorek-Zeus plays a very important role in the relationship that the World Bank enjoys with Germany. I am delighted to have had the opportunity to meet with her again. We have had, and continue to have, a deep and long-standing association, in which we both share common perspectives, and in which her department and my colleagues in the Bank work effectively together in our common fight ...
By doing this, McCarthy initiated a so-called Hysteria of McCarthyism, which was nothing but a legitimate strive of American nation to rid itself of Communist spies. This coincided with beginning of campaign to discredit McCarty, on the part of American Medias, which also, purely accidentally had a close ties with American progressive politicians. This led to Joseph McCarty being condemned by the Senate in 1954, which resulted in many of his speeches becoming the subject of censorship. The fact that McCarty continued to rail against Communism, as the most bloodthirsty political ideology that world has ever known, resulted in his premature death in 1957, with controlled Medias popularizing the myth that the cause of his death was alcoholism. It is only after the collapse of Soviet Union, that some of KGBs archives were opened to the public. The information contained in these archives leaves no doubt as to the fact that McCarty had a good reason to initiate his witch-hunt.
In his article Devils in America, Harvey Klehr reassesses McCarthys historical role, while suggesting that one of the reasons U.S. was able to win a Cold War, is because the rate of Communist infiltration in Americas politics has been brought to a minimum in fifties, as result of McCarthyism: Material emerging from both Russian and American archives after 1991 emboldened some conservatives to attempt to rehabilitate McCarthy. Not only were Alger Hiss and Julius Rosenberg indeed guilty as charged of providing aid to the Soviet Union, but also hundreds of Americans had collaborated with Soviet intelligence agencies, lending credence to McCarthys charges of a vast subversive conspiracy (Klehr, p. 32).

Thus, we can say that Joseph McCarty was able to fulfill his duty as American patriot and Senator, even though it cost him his reputation and life. (2) It is hard to overestimate the legacy of Joseph McCarty.
He triggered an immune reaction, within a body of American nation, which resulted in foreign objects that were spreading an ideological poison, being forcibly removed. From 1951 to 1954, McCartys Committee was able to expose close to 500 Communist spies in America. The Committees investigations revealed that leaders of American Communist party allowed a so-called secret membership for socially prominent members. This was being done so that Commies would be able to infiltrate governmental institutions in America with apparent ease. Even though that the majority of secret Communists were not found of doing anything wrong, it does not give opponents of McCarty the right to refer to his political activity as witch hunt. The inactive Communists still represented a great danger to the well-being of American nation, because they were simply waiting for Soviet diplomats to approach them with proposition of mutually beneficial cooperation. Only publicity could prevent potential traitors from causing harm to America.
McCarthy was clever enough to realize that Communism is like a virus it changes its form, in order to overcome the host, while maintaining its original essence. He knew very well that, just like any epidemic, Communism could only exist while expanding. The slowing down of Communisms geopolitical expansion would mean its death. In his article Falsely Accused: Cold War Liberalism Reassessed, Nicholas Wisseman tries his best to justify the lack of patriotism, on the part of American left-wing politicians, during the era of McCarthyism, but he admits that there were objective reasons for the rise of anti-Communist sentiment in America at that time: McCarthyism itself was the product of U.S. fear at both the governmental and popular level that Communism was not only on the rise, but also a direct threat to the country. International events (such as the fall of China to Communists in the summer of 1949, the detonation of an atomic bomb by Stalinist Russia in the fall of the same year, etc.) all no doubt contributed to the general perception of a Communist threat, both foreign and domestic (Wisseman, p.
The Essay on Second World Mccarthyism Communism Government
1. How do you account for the appeal of McCarthyism in the United States in the era following the Second World War? Following the Second World War was an era of McCarthyism in the United States. There are many things that can account for the appeal of McCarthyism to the people at this time. For example, communism and the actions of the government enhanced the attraction of McCarthyism. We can say that Senator McCarthy was guilty of is being overly vigilant, when it would come to discussing the best ways of how to protect America from foreign threats. It is exactly the lack of vigilance, on the part of CIA and FBI that allowed Islamic terrorists to carry out the attacks of 9/11. If American Immigration officials were more suspicious towards people who come to this country with towels wrapped around their head and with vicious glance in their eyes, the lives of thousands of people would have been saved. If metaphysical insanity of multiculturalism was not adopted as foundation, upon which Americas social policies are now based, we would not have thousands of enemies of the state, with American citizenship, living in this country, while exercising their right to openly display hatred to our traditions, as part of celebrating their cultural uniqueness. We can only agree with Charles Peters, when in his article McCarthyism: Myth and Reality he suggests that: Liberals have always had a soft spot for McCarthy’s victims and have not only understood the harm he did but have also written books and made movies about it.
What they have not understood as well is the harm done by the myth of McCarthyism–the myth that all the charges made by McCarthy and his allies were false (Peters, p. 8).
Nowadays, it became a statement of good taste to badmouth McCarthy as embodiment of conservative fanaticism. Moreover, many Liberal politicians go as far as suggesting that Communism itself was based on the progressive ideas of equality. They say it was just being simply wrongly interpreted just as Christians suggest that the Inquisition was only a slight deviation from the shining truth. The fact that Communists had murdered 50.000 million people in Soviet Union, during the course of Collectivization alone, does not invoke horror in their hearts.
The Essay on Myths That Hide The American Indian
Nearly everyone in this world is guilty of stereotyping against a certain race, religion, ethnic group, nationality, etc. One of those groups that are stereotyped is the Native Americans. Ever since the Europeans “discovered” the New World, there have myths about the Native Americans that lead to this stereotyping. In the essay, “Myths That Hide the American Indian” by ...
It is perfectly understandable why Medias refer to the lives of 6 million Jews, murdered by Nazis, as such that are much more valuable then the lives of 50.000 million of Ukrainian and Russian peasants. However, we should at least give a credit to Joseph McCarthy for not allowing spiritual and often biological descendants of Bolshevik commissars to have a liberty of causing harm to this nation, at the time when America and USSR were on the brink of war. In fact, it would not hurt if many todays politicians, who find it appropriate, speaking at the gatherings of illegal immigrants, were charged with anti-American activities, the way it was being done to traitors in fifties.
