Senior Capstone Project Mod 3 (1) The goal of Prostate Outreach Project for African American Men is to increase the level of prostate cancer awareness among Black males, who are encouraged to think of it as something that is defined by both: hereditary factors and lifestyle. The Projects other goal is to collect and classify data, related to prostate cancer, among underserved minority groups, such as Black Americans. This data is being used in scientific research, which is conducted for the purpose finding the most effective methods of dealing with prostate cancer. Therefore, we can say that the Prostate Outreach Project for African American Men is meant to promote the prevention of prostate cancer, while obtaining empirical data, in order to get a better understanding of diseases mechanics. Projects measurable objectives are: relating proportional ratio of prostate cancer among Black Americans to their racial affiliation and decreasing the percentage of Black males affected by the disease, through various educational initiatives. (2) The essence of Projects strategies is defined by its goal, which is the promotion of prostate cancer awareness, within particular ethnic group. Therefore, the main principle, upon which these strategies are based, is insuring the steady flow of participants. The participation in the Project is based on voluntary principle; therefore, the main characteristic of Projects strategies is the fact that people, who participate in the studies, are guaranteed a complete confidentiality.

Thus, we can only talk about diversity, among participants, as something that relates to their age, social status and lifestyle. Project strategies imply the notions of facilitation and support, as such that encourage people to contribute to the prostate cancer studies. (3) The scope of Prostate Outreach Project for African American Men can be described as national. Even though that study is being conducted primarily in Florida and Texas, Projects officials strive to make the results of this study applicable on the national level. Therefore, we can say that prostate cancer prevention, which is Projects primary goal, is meant to be popularized throughout U.S., even though that its scope is limited to only include African Americans. The successful implementation of Projects objectives depends on breaking up psychological taboos, among African American men, who are known for their ignorant attitudes towards health issues.
This is why, it is very important for the officials to reach Projects educational objectives, before starting to encourage Black American men to participate in the studies. Thus, the sequence of implementation of Projects objectives corresponds to a three-stage model: education, promotion, involvement. (4) The most important factors that might undermine the effectiveness of the project have psychological nature. Black Americans, on average, are much more skeptical towards the objectiveness of medicinal research, then representatives of other racial minorities in U.S. This has to do with the fact that Black Americans used to be oppressed in this country, for a long time. The most effective way to deal with such skepticism is investing more effort into promotion of health awareness, within this particular ethnic group.
On the other hand, many factors might increase overall effectiveness of the Project. One of them is governments growing concern about multiculturalism, as the concept that does no appear to benefit American nation, as it was originally intended. This prompts the government to spend more and more money to insure peoples equality, in the field of health care. The share of governments financing in Prostate Outreach Project consists of 50% and there are many indications that point out to the fact that government is willing to invest even more money in increasing the prostate cancer awareness, among African Americans.
