“A Cigarette is a pipe with a fire in one side and a fool on the other side” (Smith); smoking has become a cool and stylish trend in a society especially among teenagers. Smokers spend so much money to purchase cigarettes. This addiction usually starts in high school when teenagers try to do now things. In the beginning teenagers starts with few puffs after they get addicted to it. Some people think that smoking helps, in reducing mental stress. It keep them relax and satisfied. “Smokers often report that cigarettes help relieve feelings of stress” (Parrott).

Tobacco Smoking remains a huge and costly problem. Smoking twenty or more cigarettes per day during pregnancy doubles the probability of mental impairment in newborn. Heavy smokers are also twenty times more likely to suffer from lung cancer than non-smokers (lastra).
The smoking habit is very difficult to overcome and there are some quit aid companies, which help smokers to quit. “U.S.A based research shows that 90 percent of lung diseases are caused by smoking” (Benjamin).
On the other hand, keeping the smoking legal is helpful to Government; it is a source of vast amount of income for government in form of taxes. Smokers pay big amount of taxes on cigarette purchases. Government invests that money to make the economy better by creating job opportunities. Tobacco companies are the source of employment for many people and helping government in reducing unemployment rate.
Though, the negative side of smoking overweighs the benefits and thus it should be banned. Smoking affects immediately on a smoker’s body and contains a poisonous and highly addictive substance called nicotine, which directly affects the lungs, hence becoming the base of different life threatening diseases, such as heart attacks. The nicotine contained in cigarettes becomes a major cause of coronary heart disease in United States (Benjamin).

Smoking influences our environment in a horrible manner making the air and water polluted and restricting other forms of life from inhaling pure gaseous. There are thousands of different chemicals in a puff of smoke, which are released in an environment by a smoker indicating a huge increase in the pollution every day. Not only this, smoking stores a large quantity of nicotine and tars in the environment, which are dangerous for all forms of life. Most importantly, cigarettes butts are thrown everyday on grounds. “Wildlife and birds, seeing those butts as food, make an attempt to eat which causes their death” (Smith).
So, smoking does not damage the people only, but affects badly on the nature as a whole.
After analyzing above-mentioned facts, it is understood that the negative impacts of smoking reduces the positive aspects. In the nutshell, the chronic and fatal effects of smoking are not destructive for an individual only, but a source of devastation for a society as a whole. Hence, the government must occur through different legislations, such as heavy tax impositions, to keep their citizens and environment healthy; reducing the number of deaths caused by a controllable factor and to prevent people from horrible sicknesses.
