Should Marijuana Be Legalized?
Marijuana, also known as weed, pot, grass, bud, trees and many other street slang words, should not under any circumstances be legalized due to the negative effects it has on society. It can and would destroy society with time if it were legal, in other words easier to get. Marijuana may not seem so bad but when looked at carefully anyone can clearly see the negative sides to it.
Marijuana is proven to destroy brain cells resulting in burnt out, or slow, people. If it were legalized then the majority of society would walk around like zombies looking for munchies all the time. All they would want to do is get high. Not only would people be slow mentally but physically as well. A person s reactions to things are slowed down because of marijuana. Therefore under the influence of marijuana people will not be able to perform normal daily routines without consequences. For example car accidents will increase greatly because of people s delayed reactions to things. People will not be able to operate other machinery without chances of something happening because they are high. In fact people may not even be able to control themselves or their actions when they are high. Or they will use the excuse of being high when they do something like commit a crime or make a mistake. It happens now so what will stop them from doing it when they are smoking marijuana legally.

Marijuana is one of the worst drugs because it is a gateway drug. After doing it for a long period of time it loses it s effect on you. Then the person looks for the same high in a different and stronger drug. Then that drug loses its effect and the person moves on to something stronger. It is a never-ending cycle that can lead to death. This cycle usually begins with marijuana and ends with heroine, coke, crack, jail or death. Drug dealers would also have to sell other drugs in order to make up for their losses. Which means there will be either something stronger on the streets or something new. That would be great for the people who need something stronger because their bodies are now immune to marijuana. They would probably want to legalize that drug as well.
The worst part about legalizing marijuana is that it will allow children to think that it is ok to do it. Just like when it comes to being allowed to drink at twenty-one. Everyone thinks that it is ok to drink at twenty-one, just because that is the legal drinking age our government set. So why won t children think that it is ok to smoke marijuana especially if it is legal. They will simply compare it to alcohol and definitely cigarettes, since the legal age on cigarettes is eighteen.
