Every time the American government passes a law that effects all of America there are always people who are against it. If America had a mandatory draft for all Americans over the age of 18 the government would not only have to deal with the problems in Iraq, but also the draft could promote protests, strikes, and even possible violence in America. So rather than having to focus Americas man power in Iraq, the American government will have to send army soldiers back to America to police and control people in order to stop riots. During the Vietnam War a mandatory draft took place. In this draft were selected criminals, druggies, cowards, and drunks. What good could these people do in the army? A man named Kimbal Ross Binder recalls this, and refers to his experience as an amalgam (chaos).
If America has a mandatory draft today the same thing that happened then will happen again. Besides from that, a mandatory draft would not solve Americas military problem. What America is doing in Iraq right now can not be solved by sending more soldiers to Iraq. The problem right now is establishing a form of government in Iraq. Soldiers are needed to try and keep peace and to stop the flow of guns and weapons going around. Calling a nation wide draft would be irrational and unfair to American citizens. My resolution to a draft would be to pay soldiers additional money in installments after their term is over. Once every month soldiers will receive $500 for 3 and a half years.
In total soldiers will receive $21,000 over this time period. My reasoning for not paying it all at once is because of Americas debt. We are over a 9 trillion dollar debt and I feel that if we continue to borrow money from other countries, eventually they will stop helping us and possibly start a feud. Having the American government pay previous soldiers in installments allows the American government to pay over a period of, and not go into to far of a bigger debt at once..
