The Green Knight went first and Sir Gawain was to chop the Green Knights head off and one year and a day from this act, Sir Gawain was to be beheaded as well. So Sir Gawain chopped the Green Knights head off. The Green Knight was split in two pieces, head and body, lying on the ground. To Sir Gawains surprise the Green Knight pops up off the ground picks his head and tells Sir Gawain, we will meet again in one year and a day for your beheading, and hops on his horse and rides away.

Well Sir Gawain found a way, he had received a green girdle from this lady and when it is worn it protects and keeps you from harm. It was perfect for Sir Gawains situation. Finally the beheading day arrived and Sir Gawain grew up enough courage and was faithful to his word to go thrown with the beheading. The Green Knight took the ax and his first blow with it. He missed, and took another shot at Sir Gawains head. He didnt want to kill Sir Gawain because he was faithful to his word and willing to stay true to it. So he took one last blow at chopping his head off and hit his neck with the blade, but only left a scratch.
