A boy and his father were stopped at a red light. The boy out his window and notices a bright neon sign, ands asks his father “What dose XXX mean?” The father quickly changes the subject and drives away. This is just one of the questions and controversy that a strip club could bring to a community. It seems that in the past decade strip clubs have been sprouting up all across the country, sometimes in small communities. Strip clubs are detrimental in that they show that sexual acts are acceptable in today’s society, they only provide enjoyable entertainment to a particular audience, and problems that occur in the club can lead to problems in the community.
One major concern that strip clubs bring to a community is that they show the younger generation that sexual acts are acceptable in today’s society. This can be proven in a number of ways. One way that they show unacceptable behavior is by placing advertisements in newspapers with coupons attached or over the radio and television announcing a wet T-shirt contest or amateur night to name a few. Another way that strip clubs show sexual acceptance is by how well it pays. Since you don’t need a degree to get up on stage and dance to music while removing articles of clothing many young adults think of this as an easy way to make money with out having to get an education.

Even some movies and television shows present the idea that strip clubs are acceptable. For instance, Porkeys, a movie made in the seventies which portrays a group of high school kids from a small town sneaking into a strip club and having the time of their lives until being throw out. This alone gives young viewers the belief the sexual acts like stripping are a good thing. It is now at the point where television shows are also encouraging it. One show that makes strip clubs seem acceptable is Married With Children. In this show Al Bundy makes strip clubs out to be the greatest place on earth, an example to support this is, when he takes his son Bud on his eighteenth birthday. His wife Peggy also helps make strip clubs acceptable when she goes with a brunch of her friends to one and makes them look as if it is a place to go to relieve some tension.
Another reason that strip clubs are detrimental is that they only provide enjoyable entertainment to a particular audience. Usually when you think of strip clubs it is something that doesn’t include the family. Instead it is something that usually attracts young to middle age adults. This creates an eye sore for the rest of the community. By removing such places this will allow towns to create more family or social places to form. Such establishments as bowling alleys or movie theaters will provide more of an enjoyable atmosphere to people ranging from all ages. They also will create more jobs in a community than would strip clubs. For one thing strip clubs only focus on hiring the “attractive people” and usually only have a few people working in the establishment. On the other hand if your community had a bowling ally or movie theater instead there would be a need to fill many positions. These positions could be filled by anybody excluding physical appearances. Another thing that they will do is help the town make more money. Since strip clubs are usually open during night hours this limits them in making money. Where as movie theaters and bowling alleys are usually open all day and night which allows them to make twice the money of strip clubs. One other advantage that they have is their ability to hold other events. For instance bowling alleys may be reserved for parties and theaters may be used to hold big events such as concerts or a place to hold charity auctions.

A third way that strip clubs are detrimental to the environment is that problems that occur in the clubs can lead to problems in the community. One major problem that has happened in the past was that strip clubs were a prime place to use drugs. Since vast amounts of money is being made by the club as well as the stripers and such a variety of people come in to the club each night it creates a perfect environment to conduct such business. This in turn would eventually leak into the community making the access to drugs that much easier for children. Another problem that strip clubs may cause is problems in relationships. There have been instance were relationships have been ended over going to strip clubs. This show that you don’t respect the other person in the relationship if you are willing to pay to watch other people take off their clothes. Another instance where strip clubs are an endangerment to the environment is by having a strip club in the community may cause the town to look cheap and dirty. A good example of this is New York City until a few months ago parts of the city contained strip clubs, which made the city, look dirty. Now that strip clubs are no longer New York can be seen as a much cleaner city.
Now after reading some of the problems that strip clubs bring to communities you can now understand why the boy’s father changed the subject. One major step in to cleaning up the communities and restoring the purity in the younger generations is to remove strip clubs and the negative examples they set. This will also eliminate or cut down on some problems such as the distribution of drugs and stereotyping people.
