My Philosophy of Graduate Education in Pharmacy
Pharmacy is a discipline of science that dictates the health and disease. Continued education and research in every branch of pharmacy are needed for the health care, therapy, and prevention. I believe that my graduate training in the science of pharmacy will enable me to accomplish my goals in educating myself and others, to conduct research, and also to contribute my skills and knowledge to the welfare of the society.
Why Pharmacy as Undergraduate Major?
Pharmacy is my passionate field where the scope for learning is vast as it deals with science of drugs. I developed a deep-seated love towards the discipline of pharmacy while I was an undergraduate student in pharmacy. During my middle school days, my grandfather played a crucial role in my decision to choose pharmacy as my undergraduate major. While he was registrar of the state Pharmacy Council, I often used to follow him to his work and read the invention patents of the drugs generated by several drug developers and scientists. Along these lines, I have also developed sincere passion for biology as a part of my middle and high school curricula. This inculcated tremendous passion and zeal in me to join the pharmacy school. I successfully got admission in Bachelors of Pharmacy at the JSS College of Pharmacy, one of the most top three reputed and prestigious pharmacy institutions in India.

Academically, I was at my best throughout my pharmacy undergraduate training and maintained consistency. As a result of that, I came out among the top 10% of the class. I had excellent interactions and intellectual exchanges with my peers and faculty members that helped me acquire excellent organizational skills, healthy interpersonal relationships, and sense of responsibility and commitment to work. Being on the district cricket team and winning trophies in athletic competitions have made me a team player. Memorable accomplishments during my undergraduate days were my participation in the National Pharmacy Week Celebrations and winning awards for the outstanding performance in the fashion show and dance performance. These extracurricular activities reinforced in me the value of hard work and commitment to accomplish goals which are highly essential for a graduate student. I always thank people who have made a positive impact on my life.
The key person who has motivated me to further my career as a pharmacist is my teacher and the principal of our college, Dr. Bhojraj Suresh who is also the President of the Pharmacy Council of India and an internationally reputed scientist. Dr. Suresh is my role model who has immensely inspired me to not only major in pharmacy but also to continue higher education and research in pharmacy as a graduate student and beyond. Hence, I believe that I will be fortunate to interact with highly accomplished and reputed scientists and teachers during my graduate training in the U.S. that will chisel my character and intellectual stature with which I can continue advancing in my career as a scientist and teacher.
Why PhD in Pharmacy?
In my undergraduate program, I studied different areas of pharmacy such as pharmacology, pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis and organic and inorganic chemistry. Although I had a comprehensive exposure in these areas as an undergraduate student of pharmacy, the scope for specialization in a particular area of choice has been limited at the bachelor’s level. Pharmacy is a vast and perpetually growing field of science with a broad scope and diverse specializations. PhD in pharmacy is essential for me and will certainly offer me extensive training in pharmacology which is my chosen area of specialization. Also, pursuing PhD will create continued opportunities for me to learn the advancements in the field of pharmacy in general that will lead me towards pharmacology as the specialization of my choice and assist me to pursue my career in research and teaching . Above all, pharmacology is a multidisciplinary science and therefore I feel that I need a strong and in depth graduate training in pharmacy that I can obtain in the U.S.

Why Pharmacology?
In my view, pharmacology dictates and determines drug discovery and drug development. Pharmacology also is highly critical for clinical therapeutics. Thus, pharmacology in general fascinates me. To be honest, I fell in love with pharmacology at my undergraduate training. Thus, I developed deep-seated passion and determination to specialize in pharmacology at the graduate level. Having that in mind, as an undergraduate student, I heavily emphasized on building a strong fundamental background in biochemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, medicinal chemistry, and physiology all of which are essential to specialize in pharmacology at the graduate level. The fact of the matter is that pharmacology plays an important role in treating a disorder or disease. Along drug discovery, establishment of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of new and novel drugs is highly critical and I am interested and committed to receive advanced graduate training in these areas.
Why Graduation In USA?
It is not flattering to say that the US universities are front runners in scientific research and education, know how, and technology. Moreover, several US universities have established standards of education and research in the areas of biomedical sciences including pharmacy. Also, several of my teachers have been trained in the US universities and they have been encouraging me to join graduate program in pharmacy in the US universities towards advancing in education and research. In addition, I will have opportunities to broaden my intellectual basis as well as to strengthen my philosophy of scientific research and education upon acquiring PhD in pharmacy in the US universities.

I have found that the Ohio State University Pharmacy School is an established institution in Ohio. The College of Pharmacy not only offers excellent training in pharmacy as a whole but also provides with excellent training in pharmacology and toxicology. Pharmacology faculty at the Ohio State University Pharmacy College is very impressive and I can identify the program of my choice. The department offers advanced research training in the areas of toxicology, pharmacokinetics, molecular pharmacology, gene therapy, and drug metabolism, in which I am highly interested. I can easily accommodate my interests of research in pharmacology with those of the faculty members who are interested in me. Upon completion of my PhD at Ohio State University I will work for a research institution that is a part of the university, hospital or both and pursue my career towards research and teaching.
