Lights! Camera! Action! Have you seen E.T., The Extra-Terrestrial? It’s about a 900-year-old Extra-Terrestrial who bonds with Elliot, A ten-year-old boy. There connection with one another goes far beyond empathy to literally being able to experience each other physical and emotional feelings. Or maybe you’ve seen Raiders Of The Lost Ark? In this movie, the hero is Indiana Jones. He is a daring archaeologist who seems to find danger wherever it lurks. He confronts deadly villains, unexpected rockslides, poisonous snakes, and many other bone wrenching obstacles just to get to the treasure he’s looking for. Haven’t you seen Jaws? Or Jurassic Parks? What about Hook? Shindler’s List maybe? The Color Purple? Don’t tell me you’ve never seen Saving Private Ryan? Steven Spielberg is the name, and directing movies is my game. I was born on December 18, 1946 and since the age of twelve I knew the only career for me would be making films. With my goal set in mind and with my parents strong support I followed my dream. After several years of watching movies on TV, I noticed bad framing and composition, movies without continuity, wobbly camera handling, and overexposed film.
I showed these flaws to my father until finally he gave me a camera and told me to do better. I photographed everything I could. I recorded my electric trains crashing into each other and wrote short skits in which I made my sisters perform in them. I knew three-minute skits and simple electric train crashes weren’t going to cut it if I wanted to make it to the film business, I would have to make a very professional movie and that opportunity would require a lot of money, which I didn’t have. A Hollywood businessman named Denis C. Hoffman made my first big project possible. He invested $20,000 which enabled me to make the movie called Amblin’. After seeing the quality of Amblin’ a Universal Studios executive offered me a contract to direct films. During my career in Hollywood I directed many box office smash hits and have been awarded with many Oscars, including best director and best movie of the year. And…Cut! All right! That’s a wrap!
