As you read the “Strength to Love” you start to realize how today’s society is filled with hatred and has been overcome by great amounts of evil. I think that this is what Martin Luther King wanted to get through to the reader as he wrote this book of sermons. Not only was the society being ruined, but the people that make up the society were damaging our world; and still damaging it today. Obviously, the main issue that Martin Luther King was trying to cover was the idea of living a better lifestyle which God has chosen for us to ultimately better ourselves and our society.
MLK (Martin Luther King, Jr.) makes a lot of good observations which he makes within each chapter. I think that each of the chapters had one specific point that MLK wanted to get by to the reader which summed up to his main topic. Three of the strongest points that struck me the most were the tough mind and the tender hearts of strong people. Secondly, that our God is able to do anything. And Thirdly, The answer to the perplexing question of, “How can evil be cast out?”
As I was reading the first chapter I was amazed how the things that were being said were so true. Our society today is generally built of two types of people: tough minded people and soft minded people. There is a world out there full of television, radio and internet that people are engaged in. With any of those things easily at hand people tend to depend on them or take them for granted to not only entertain us but to fill us with resources. That resource, which may be true or false, tends to brainwash the soft-minded people of our society. The tendency for people to fall into these types of traps has led to a violent and prejudice lifestyle. Soft mindedness has brought these evil acts upon our world. On the opposite side of the soft minded person is the tough minded person. Jesus has helped those with the tough mind to think with reason, make decisive judgments and decipher true from false. But with only a tough mind you will lack genuine compassion and isolate yourself from others. Not only do you have to have tough mind but you have to have a tender heart. We worship a God who is both tough minded and tender hearted. He leads us and sets examples for us to follow.
The Essay on Human Beings People Children Society
Attitudes As American Citizens, it is our duty to treat all others with respect. America was created as a melting pot and has been since its creation. It is our duty to be open minded and to work with and around all other people, at least on the surface. Some people, regretfully, are unable to see others pleasantly even if they don t enjoy them and deal with other races and groups. No matter what ...
Another significant point that MLK pointed out was that “our God is able.” Our God is the almighty, powerful and loving God. “He has the power to do abundant things in nature and in history.” (Ch. 11, pg. 107) Society has been convincing themselves that God is an unnecessary item on the agenda of life and is no longer relevant. Scientists have been trying and in some ways succeeding in finding ways to factor out God. They have been succeeding because they have found followers of these beliefs. Who will save man from the end of the world? Will man? No, because only God’s guided spirit can save us from something so devastating. God is the only one who can restrain all powers of evil. Though it may take time God is the only one that will be there through out all eternity. God is not only a resource for the exterior but also for the interior. He is the one who helps us with our trials and difficulties of life. Through thick and thin, only God will be there by our side because he is able.
The removal of evil from our world is a never ending battle. It is something that cannot be fought off without the help of a stronger power. That stronger power can only be God. Without surrendering yourselves to God, you will fail in your struggle to free the world from evil. Giving up all hope is not the answer. You must pray and talk sincerely to the Lord above. Neither God nor man will individually cast evil away from our corrupted society. Only a unity of God and man will bring transformation from evil to good. The sin that has been the evil to our society will fall apart due to the strength of God’s power and man’s faith. Without faith in God there cannot be any change in today’s world. God has given us a promise to assist us with the battle to cast evil from our lives and to become true children of his divine will.
The Essay on God And Person Faith Life One
God and Person The word "person" can be interpreted and defined in many different ways, and there are many different aspects to consider when stating what a person really is. Accomplishments, goals, likes, dislikes, and experiences in life make a person who he or she really is. Traits most "central" to being a person include consciousness, reasoning, self-motivated activity, the capacity to ...
After reading the book, I found that the topic that was given was something that was very important but not really taken serious. Everyday there is something that is eating at us and causing evil in our society. Whether it be a terrorist attack or shoplifting from a grocery store, every little thing is something that is eating away at our society. The only person that can help us treat this cancer is the God we worship. One of the most important things that I got out of this book was the first point that MLK made. The first chapter on how the society is split into two types of people hit me the hardest. I realized that I am a soft minded person. I am easily entangled with what goes on in our society. Television, radio, internet or even magazines has truly affected my life. I depend on these things to entertain me or give me answers to questions in life. The only thing that I should be actually depending on is God and God’s word. Our society is made up of people that are just like me. The first thing they turn to when in doubt is the world, when in actuality, it should be God. This is the topic that I would be interested in pursuing further. It interests me on how many people actually turn to God when they are in need of help.
Is it half? Or is it less than half? Who knows? This is something that everyone should keep in mind when they in a cornered position. When you have no way out or no way to turn you should see where or who you turn to first. If it’s not God who you turn to first then are you someone like me? A soft minded person? Or a tough minded person? If I could ask the author a question on the material he presented I would ask him if he was a soft minded person. You can’t tell by the way MLK writes because you never know how he really is inside. If you are a soft minded person, how do you change to become a tough minded person? I think that question is the hardest to answer because not everyone can turn to God for help. Everyone is different. Ultimately, I think changing from a soft minded person to a tough minded and tender hearted person would change our society for the better.
