Incredible Hulk
The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962) is a comic book about a fictional superhero created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and published by Marvel Comics. The Hulk is a giant, raging, humanoid green monster. The character was adored and highly recognized by public. The two movies, Hulk (2003) and Incredible Hulk (2008) were directed based on comic book. The Incredible Hulk was directed by Louis Leterrier and a star, Edward Norton and released with high expectation of public on June 13, 2008. The film ranks #1 at the box office and gained high popularity of the world. Although both the comic book and movie have loved by many people, there are some difference and similarity between them in terms of character, plot and also the people’s point of view.
First, the character of Bruce Banner who later changed to Hulk is portrayed differently in comic and movie. At first in the comic, Banner was in state of panic and fear after knowing of his eccentric transformation into a monster, Hulk. Therefore he could not communicate or associate with people around him. On the other hand, later in the movie, the personality of Banner changed a lot. He was capable of falling in love with Betty Rose. Moreover he as a scientist could solve his problems by applying his deductive knowledge and observation. Finally he actually was able to control the monster inside himself. However there are also some similarities. The color of Hulk, green was same both in the comic and movie. Moreover the strength of Hulk was directly proportion to the anger of the monster. When he gets mad, his power also increases.

Second, the plot of story is little different. The incident that caused Banner to transform into the Hulk is little dissimilar. In comic, Bruce Banner was physicist and accidentally exposed to the blast of a test detonation of a gamma bomb that he invented. Then, this incident caused him to transform into the Hulk. However, in the movie, General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the father of Banner’s girlfriend wanted Banner to revive a WWII-era military super soldier and brought him into the experiment by deceiving him. He told Banner that the experiment is to make human immune to gamma radiation. However the experiment failed and thus transformed him into the monster.
Lastly, two important entertainment mediums, Book and Movie give different main point for people to enjoy. Comic book has a lot of detailed sub-plots and requires longer time to take pleasure in. Most readers are engrossed by story line in comic by the realistic picture. In contrast, the movie entails short time but with great effect on people’s eye. In addition, it contains visual and audio effects to stimulate the senses of audience.
Incredible, fascinated, interesting monster, Hulk was appeared through two great mediums, comic and movie in the world and both loved by public. However there are some differences we might want to consider between them such as personality of character, story line and strength of each media. Furthermore, with high interest and concern of people in the world, it has been shown in various media such as television, movie and video game until now.
