Summery Essay on To Kill a Mocking Bird
In the second chapter, we find out that it’s the first day of school of a young girl named Jean Louise Finch, who is almost always called by her nickname, Scout, she is six years old. We soon find out that her new teacher, Miss Caroline Fisher, doesn’t know much about this county yet and so does not know how to handle the kinds, nor the situations she is put in very well.
When Miss Caroline Fisher finds out that Scout knows already how to read and right and has been taught by her father Atticus, a lawyer and only parent, she takes it very badly and tells Scout to tell her father to stop teaching her how to read.
If we consider the setting of the book, we can somewhat understand why Miss Caroline takes it badly, its her first time teaching kinds here and she wants to try out a different way of teaching, but feels a bit overwhelmed by everything and so feels that Scout is ruining her teaching, but what she doesn’t understand is that in this town there are different family’s with very different ways of life and problems, in those times, life was very difficult, you had to work yourself to death to survive mostly if you are in a county where most of the population are farmers, so most of the kids aren’t very intellectual and so it’s going to be a very hard task for Miss Caroline.
Scout takes it very badly when the teacher tells her off for being taught by her father, she doesn’t get why its bad, so and break time, she decides to tell her older brother Jem who is 4 years her senior on who she often asks for advice, after all, isn’t that what brothers are for? Jem try’s to explain to Scout that its Miss Caroline’s first time teaching and she is trying a new way of teaching so Scout should be a little understanding.
The Essay on Teaching Methodologies In Foreign Regions
FOREIGN Although many experts feel they can easily identify excellent teachers, it has proven extraordinarily difficult to determine exactly which teacher characteristics contribute to desired student outcomes (Medley and Shannon 1994). Imig and Imig (2006) clarified some of the controversy that surrounds this area of research, especially in the United States. They identified two movements in ...
As the day continues, things don’t get any better between Miss Caroline and Scout. Its lunch time and Walter Cunningham one of Scouts class mate didn’t bring a lunch to school. That’s when the Teacher wants to give him a penny so he can go and buy himself something to eat, but Walter refuses, Walter’s family is large and poor, so poor that they pay Atticus with hickory nuts, turnip greens, or other goods when they need legal help, and Walter will never be able to pay the teacher back or bring a lunch to school. When Scout attempts to explain this, Miss Caroline doesn’t understand and becomes so frustrated that she slaps Scout’s hand with a ruler. Then after in chapter 3, later on after class, Scout starts to beat up poor Walter, that’s when Jem comes over and tells Scout to stop, that’s when she explains the whole story with Miss Caroline but Jem tells her its no reason to beat Walter up, that’s when Jem trying to be friendly decides to invite Walter over, Walter hesitates a moment then decides to accept.
Soon after, once arrived home, Atticus talks to Walter about crops while Walter drowns his food in saws, that’s when Scout makes a comment on how he shouldn’t do that, straight away, Calpurnia, the house keeper, tells Scout off and gives her a lesson on how to never thing herself superior to others all the time and how Walter is her guest and do should treat him as one no matter who he is. And so after a short explanation, Calpurnia send Scout back to dinner with a smack.
The next day at school, Miss Caroline has to deal with yet another situation she doesn’t know how to deal with. Burris Ewel has a “cootie” or a tiny bug, crawls out of Burris’s hair and Miss Caroline is terrified. Once again, Miss Caroline does not know the life style of the Ewel’s family, they are even poorer and less respected then the Cunningham’s. The Ewel’s only come to school the first day of school to not have any trouble with the law and leave the same day. He then leaves the class after the teacher’s reaction towards his uncleanness and decides to tell Miss Caroline enough insults and cruel remarks to make her cry as he leaves. All the kids rush to the teacher as soon as Burris is gone.
The Essay on Miss Carolines First Day
I walked into the classroom to see all my new pupils, I was nervous at first but then Miss Maudie introduced me to the class and everything was fine. I wrote my name on the board and told them what it said and where I am from. The class just murmured back to me. I started the day by reading the children a story about cats, I think they liked it but then again some of them did seem immune to ...
Later that day, after school ended, Atticus realizes that something is wrong with Scout at so decided to ask her about it, Scout says she only not feeling well, and tells Atticus she doesn’t want to go to school, and as soon as Atticus refuses, she brings up the Ewel’s and asks why she would have to go if they don’t have to go, so Atticus tells her that they are very different to her and that the law only lets them not go to school having to much trouble keeping them in school. When Scout still refuses to go to school, Atticus gets a little angry and tells hr she has to go to school, that it’s the law and then promises to keep reading with Scout if she promises not to tell Miss Caroline. Scout accepts and leaves.
We can clearly see that in this chapter, Scout has to learn to put herself in other people’s shoes to understand them better “You never really understand a person until you . . . climb into his skin and walk around in it.” Is what Atticus tells her. Scout is going to have to learn fast in this kind of environment which in itself can’t be that bad.
