Benefits of a Patriarchal Society The term ‘Patriarchal’ is one that expresses masculine dominance. Feminist sociologists have come up with theories over the years that this trend must be broken. They have criticized the general norms and values of the current modern society, thereby indicating that men have subjected women to exploitation and oppression. It is true that men have been able to acquire more prominent status in society as a result of traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation.
It is said by many ‘bitter’ women that men have a stranglehold on top positions worldwide and thus, have been able to acquire certain privileges that go with these roles. Men have been portrayed from the beginning of time as the breadwinners of each household. And since then the world has progressed quite efficiently. Firstly all of the significant rulers, inventors, discoverers and scientists have been male. Sure feminist fanatics may argue that women were not given any substantial opportunity to exhibit their talents in the olden days. But this would be unjust to make this comparison since we would not be able to tell if their impact would have either been positive or adverse.
In addition, religion has it that God initially created man, in the form of Adam, and only to satisfy Adam’s loneliness he created Eve to serve as a companion. And it was she who initially broke the God’s law and cast mankind into oblivion forever. That should be evidence enough to show that woman’s rights should be limited to a certain degree. In the bible, with the exception of Mary, Jesus’ mother, there are no instances of women playing any outstanding part throughout. Women have fitted well in their role of playing second fiddle to their male counterparts thus far and there should be no reason that things should change in the future as men have shown that they are fully competent in managing the world’s affairs.
