The history of the development of Tae Kwon Do spans thousands of years through periods of innovation and, unfortunately, repression. In kickboxing there are no methods in differentiating levels of rank, everyone is
considered to be the same experience level and is treated that way. You do not gain any
kind of respect, or recognition and placed higher than anyone else. You are not expected
to perform better because you are more experienced. Everyone works at their own pace,
concentrating on self-improvement and performs to the best of their own ability to self-set
standards. You come out of the class with a little bit of skill, and you will be stronger. It
can in no way, however, be compared to the satisfaction you get after you leave a
class, and all the important experience you get out of martial arts such as Tae Kwon Do.
I enjoy both activities for very different reasons. I have been in the sport of
Tae Kwon Do for over seven years and have attained a first degree black belt. I
appreciate the confidence that I have developed and value the discipline I have acquired
through my complicated training.
Through kickboxing I have both strengthened and toned my most useful and most
neglected muscles thus benefiting my performance in Tae Kwon Do also. I have become
more powerful, and maintained better concentration when executing techniques in both
sports.
Both activities are efficient for achieving the greatest results desired to fit into just
about anyone’s schedule. The final decision is left up to the individual’s personal
preference.
