Taking a Stand Against Abortion Abortion is a controversial topic that many are happy to avoid. As law abiding citizens, taking the life of another should not be a luxury that mothers are given as a solution to their problems. In this essay I will be explaining to you some side effects of having an abortion, scientific evidence of when life begins, and reasons why people have an abortion.
Most people don’t know that when a woman has an abortion some side effects can include hemorrhage, infection, sterility, and even death. So not only is she killing her child, there is a chance she could die from it too. The psychological effects of an abortion are so well documented, that psychologist has given it a name: post-abortion syndrome (PAS).
Women may have symptoms of PAS right after the abortion, but often times it doesn’t go into effect until many months or years later.
There has been many arguments as to when the fetus is a living human being. A scientific textbook called “Basics of Biology” gives five characteristics of living things; these five criteria are found in all modern elementary scientific textbook:
1. Living things are highly organized. 2. All living things have an ability to acquire materials and energy.
3. All living things have an ability to respond to their environment.
4. All living things have an ability to reproduce. 5. All living things have an ability to adapt.
According to this elementary definition of life, life begins at fertilization, when a sperm unites with an oocyte. So when a pregnant woman feels a kick in her belly, she doesn’t say “Oh, the fetus kicked” or “Oh, the mass of cells that hasn’t become a person kicked”, she says “The baby kicked.” Abortion gives the couple an option to choose not to bring babies with severe and life threatening medical conditions to full term. The X syndrome, most common genetic form of mental retardation, happens 1 in about 4,000 males and 1 in 8,000 females. 1 in about 3,500 babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis. Many women choose abortion because, they don’t have the financial support for a child. Raising a child is a BIG financial responsibility and many couples can’t support as child. In the United States $4,020 is the basic cost of raising each child per year as estimated by the Department of Health and Human Services for 2013, whether there is one child or many children. Based on the 30 year average inflation rate of 3% increasing the annual cost every year, $72,360 is the total basic cost of raising a child from birth in 2004 to age 18.
The Essay on Abortion 3 Living Thing
Abortion There are few more decisive issues in this country today than abortion.
