At this day in age, the use of technology has increased greatly. It is continuing to get more advanced day by day. For example, the first cell phones used to only be able to make calls, now they can take pictures and/or video, surf the web, and they even have voice control so that you don’t even have to use your hands! Using technology in classrooms can help engage students more, save paper, and help students find answers quicker and more efficiently; it is a very helpful asset and can make learning a more enjoyable experience for students.
Some may argue that using laptops in the classroom can cause distraction. They think that because students have access to the web they will then get distracted and go on off topic websites. Although this is true, taking breaks is actually good for the students. Generally, people think that the more hours you spend studying the more effective it is, but actually by studying longer with no break causes you to not be able to perform to your full potential. Taking breaks gives their brains time to absorb all that they just learned and give their brains time to “breathe”.
The primacy and recency effect says that you remember things better that are at the beginning and end of your studying (Lui).
Which means that, a little side distraction during your studying would not have much effect on your actual studying. Rather, technology can make learning more fun for students! By engaging the students into games that subliminally are actually teaching them a lesson. These students are now learning as they have fun in the process. For example, with the Smart Board, kids get to actually go up to the screen and using the special pens they get to select their answers.
The Essay on Effects of electronic gadgets to students studying habits
Abstract Almost all of the students especially high school students are seen of using different kinds of electronic gadgets everyday. Like cellphone, iPad, psp, etc. With that case, students who are addicted in using electronic gadgets affects their studies. As what I have observed, using of electronic gadgets gives bad effects to almost all of the students. The purpose of doing this study is to * ...
When I was volunteering at Yorba Elementary, I actually got to watch the kids do a lesson on math using the Smart Board. The teacher would select a student and the child would go up to the board and practice their number recognition. There would be about five numbers on the board and the teacher would ask them to circle a certain number such as four and the student would then go up and circle the number four. Using the Smart Board made the kids want to go up and do the problems just because they thought it was “cool” to use the Smart Board rather than workbooks or work sheets.
When we begin using technology rather than those workbooks or work sheets, we are now also saving trees in the process. By using computers rather than the textbooks, we can save more money and paper. Although people think that by incorporating technology will be too much money, but by using devices and technology in the classroom instead of paper books, schools can save about $250 per student and $12. 2 billion per year (Electronista).
Also, when using the Smart Board schools save on having to buy dry erase markers; the money they’re going to be saving can go towards the expense of the Smart Board.
Using the Smart Board doesn’t just save money, it also protects the health of the students. Inside of the dry erase markers is a chemical called Methyl isobutyl ketone. The side effects of this chemical can be, “headache, nausea, light-headedness and even enlargement of the liver” (Norris).
Documents say that the maximum time you can be around this chemical is no more than fifteen minutes out of an eight hour period (Norris).
So not only the students are in danger, but the teachers are in even more danger because they’re closer to it and have to be using them for much more than 15 minutes per school day.
Of course this doesn’t affect the online students. These students get to learn the same material but in the privacy of their own homes. Technology is helping these students learn still even if they can’t go to an actual school. There’s many reasons why they can’t get to a school such as they have children and can’t get a sitter or the children that make bad choices and end up on house arrest. Technology is helping young parents realize that just because they had a child young their life isn’t over; they can still go to school and do something with their lives.
The Essay on Gun Control And End The Shed School Guns Children
Tighten Gun Control And End The Shed Tighten Gun Control And End The Shed Of Young Innocent Blood Tighten Gun Control and End the Shed of Young Innocent Blood On December 6, 1999, a thirteen-year-old boy at Fort Gibson Middle School in Oklahoma wounded five classmates. The seventh grader fired randomly with a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun at unsuspecting students outside waiting for the morning bell. ...
They get the best of both worlds, to still be able to get a degree and not even have to lose precious time with their child. Not only young parents but also adults that are working full time have the chance to finish school and get a degree. Maybe because of their hours they can’t make it to a classroom, with this option, they can still do school whenever they get the chance rather than having to quit work to make it to the classroom. For the students that may have made a mistake and are now on house arrest they can still continue their education.
You don’t know what put them where they are, maybe they were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Now that online courses are available, they can continue schooling and just because they made a mistake, their lives are not over. Actually, they’re now able to turn their lives back around and have a new beginning. Using online courses can help them start a new life. Another person online classes helps is the shy and introverts. Sometimes they fear others and get scared to ask questions in the classroom and this way they can learn with confidence.
In the group chats, students can ask other students questions and not be scared because they’re not actually face to face with the other person. It’s like the kids that play video games, they like playing video games and are confident because they’re behind a screen and don’t even have to put their real names. Children that got bullied can now go to school and not have to live in fear of getting picked on. Since they’re just at home they know they’re safe and not going to get harmed so they can study in peace. Another advantage of online courses is that you get to control the pace you go.
If you didn’t really understand a lesson you can just rewind it and try it a second time. In real life classrooms you can’t just put the teacher on repeat, you have to be able to keep up with the teacher and for some students that’s hard to do; especially for “special” students with mental disorders. Using technology can slow down the lessons according to their special needs. For deaf children, they can put subtitles and actually get to see each word said during the lesson. Or vice versa, blind children can listen to audios of lessons and replay it as many times as necessary for them to understand the topic at hand.
The Essay on Time and Life
According to a popular saying, schooldays are the happiest days of your life. Is there any truth in this? Answers to this question are bound to vary greatly from person to person. There are people that still think that online degrees are looked down upon by employers. Now that it is becoming more common though, employers are beginning to become more familiar with them. In a survey done by Excelsior College and Zogby International, “61 percent of CEOs and small business owners nationwide said they were familiar with online or distance learning programs. ” (Zupek).
Not only that, “…but 83 percent of executives the survey say that an online degree is as credible as one earned through a traditional campus-based program. ” (Zupek).
Although students can’t make it to live classrooms, they can still get their degrees and aren’t going to be looked at differently for it. Online classes are a marvelous thing and changing the lives of many all around the world! Another good thing about technology is that students that are in actual classrooms can look up questions online for faster results. Instead of having to go through a billion and one books searching for the answers to their question they can now just enter it to Google and get many results. This is also more helpful being able to ready different views on one topic and getting more of an idea of the topic at hand.
Through one page you can read so much then think of something else and then look that question up and with in just minutes you could learn so much compared to the hours you’d normally spend searching through books. Even with books, your limited to whatever books you can find at your nearest library or bookstore, with the Internet, any article or website related to your search topic is going to pop up and you’ll have more choices to choose from to read. These are some of the many reasons why technology in the classroom could be such a spectacular change.
Most people are scared of change, but now is the time to take action. Before you know it, technology is going to be incorporated into more and more every day things, so why not begin with classrooms. Children should use every advantage they can to gain the most knowledge possible and by having more access to technology in the classroom, kids will receive the help they need to reach their dreams at a more effective speed.
