At present, technology is developing rapidly and is widely used in many fields. In the next few years, students may have the choice to study at home with technologies such as the computer and television. However, is it really possible for students to learn at home? Studying at traditional school is the best.
First, although students can get knowledge from computer-based technology such as the Internet, the computer is still a machine, which lacks life and is incapable of solving every question. For example, if a young student asks why one plus is two, the computer can only answer that it is because one plus one is two. In fact, children want more interesting answers, which can inspire them to study mathematics. The program that is made up in the computer still depends on people. Therefore, sometimes using the computer to solve problems does not result in satisfaction. I have often used computer programs and have not learned much of anything. The tendency to find a quick way to the answer is normally approached instead of thinking your way through it. I can recall using a biology program on the computer and I would click the “next” button to bring up the answers to the questions. From there I would use the answers and the questions together to try to teach myself; I could not get further explanation because of limited information on the program.

Second, studying at school may improve students’ ability to communicate and cooperate. The best way to learn is not only through listening, speaking, reading and writing, but also through working with partners. For example, if someone were to come from Africa and did not speak English, they would learn faster by working with partners. This can encourage them with enthusiasm rather than interacting with a computer because they cannot answer the simple questions. Furthermore, computers cannot help with the annunciation of spoken words. Traditional school is a really good place for students to gain something else beyond knowledge.
Third, suppose computers taught instead of teachers, this may cause some social problems. One important concern is that thousands of people may lose their jobs because one computer program could teach millions of students. In addition, the automated phone service is another negative aspect of computers taking over a humans’ position. People go through a series of listening, waiting and pushing buttons to try to find an answer their questions that many times do not get answered. People often become frustrated because they cannot get a real person online who can answer their questions. In result, the persons’ problems are never resolved and they are discouraged to call back and deal with the hassle of the automated phone service. Another example, if you have children then you know how excited and encouraged they get when they bring home a gold sticker that their teacher gave them for behaving well or for doing a good job on an in school project. Letting the computers replace teachers would not only take away a child’s joy of getting that sticker because he or she did something good, but it would also take their interest for learning and for wanting to do good. Nowadays, because of the economic depression, many people with academics cannot find work. If the computer replaces real people, it will deeply aggravate this problem.
In all, students who study at traditional school with teachers receive a better education than those who study at home with the computer, Although computer technology is improving day by day, computers are still a product of an dare controlled by the human brain. The computer can be a good assistant that helps teachers to instruct students; however, it cannot replace the teacher entirely. Accordingly, how to deal with the relationship between traditional schools and computer-based teaching is a problem, which requires those in a qualified position to discuss. I think this challenge will be solved the next few years.
