The Muse Award should be given to one who goes about something in different and original ways. This award is for one who expresses them self individually, as creativity is the way an individual solves a problem or creates something. It isn’t an innate ability, but the truly creative are those drawn to their field by a drive that naturally pushes them deeper and beyond. Creativeness plays a very big role in the arts. Creativity must be unique and original, while to society, art has to be relevant to the time and culture. The usual and predictable cannot be considered art in a given culture and the outrageous will not be accepted either. Furthermore, the arts themselves involve the act of creation, which itself takes a creative mind. A truly creative mind can find a fine line between these and create a new way to approach and create.
In music there is a big distinction between the rules of composing and the art of breaking the rules of theory to make something great. In jazz, the great ones succeed by bending and breaking these rules to bring their sound to a different level, whereas rock and roll is judged on sound and simplicity. Phish’s Trey Anastasio deserves the Muse Award for the way he has developed and changed music with creativity unlike few musicians before him. He presents jazz guitar in a very friendly fashion, that isn’t jazz or rock. He has incorporated several other genres of music into his guitar playing as well, and in a manner that exemplifies true creativity. Also, one of the most creative song writers ever, writing deeply mythical lyrics, Anastasio has captured a cult across America since the late 80s.
The Essay on Arts Science Creativity Find
Can you imagine a world based around scientific equations or every answer being referred to the periodic table? At every meal, or every person you see, the conversation would revolve around the same topic. "Did you find the velocity for how long it would take a ball to drop?" What if science were a bore to you? How would survive with that lifestyle? Science can be diverse, because it's branched ...
Anastasio grew up in New Jersey, where he began to teach himself how to play the guitar while listening to his favorite records. His mom was a children’s writer and he occasionally would help her. This had much influence on his music. He went to the University of Vermont where he started Phish and then transferred to Goddard College, also in Vermont. Here, he studied music composition under Vermont composer Ernie Stires, while still playing with Phish (Mocking Bird Foundation, The).
For his senior project, Anastasio wrote a musical production called “The Man Who Stepped into Yesterday.” It is more commonly known as Gamehendge. He wrote it as a long, detailed fairy tale that he put music to. He narrated the tale as the band played behind him and as the story picked up they went into songs about the characters and the events. The entire production is over an hour and all one continuous piece. A modern day rock opera that incorporates musical change with the story line, Gamehendge is truly one of the most creative musical expressions ever made. The way it is written and the music that accompanies it show both beauty and creativity. It isn’t famous because it is completely unreleased, on account of Anastasio’s creative integrity, but it is available (“Phish:”).
Anastasio led Phish to play over 1,300 shows and gross over 36 million dollars(“Trey Anastasio”), as the band continued to grow through the 80s and 90s. They focused on playing live shows to a point where their chemistry is now nearly perfect. They can also come together in the studio to perform carefully written and arranged material. Anastasio writes the songs with set parts and themes as a real composer, but he allows room for jamming and improvising. Few rock bands ever come near this level, not to mention the complex improvisational music they create. In their live shows Trey leads the band almost like a conductor through a long complex jam, and then at the right moment, they all change together. It isn’t just the music that makes this incredible; it’s more. It’s a connection between the four guys on stage, the music and the audience. This is why Trey is so great. He can create something bigger than just a concert or a band. After years of tour after tour Anastasio set solo for a little only to return to an older, better Phish. However, his solo career was also a very new sound. He merged jazz and rock even farther, as he experimented with many different rhythms and other forms of music, as well as playing with a big band and some of today’s best modern jazz players. More touring pushed Trey even farther as an accomplished musician. “The guy is insane… He’s a crazed musical-output machine,” said Jon Fishman, the drummer for Phish (“Trey Anastasio”).
The Essay on Analysis of Dave Matthews Band Song Lyrics
According to the American Heritage Dictionary a poet is someone who writes poems. If I were to give my own definition of a poet it would say a poet is someone who can take a group of words and put a hundred different emotions and meanings into them. This is what Dave Mathews does with his lyrics; he takes his emotions and puts them into words. This is what makes him a poet and a master of ...
Anastasio’s creative side doesn’t come from playing the guitar, although this may drive him. It comes from how and what he plays. He constantly finds new ways to express himself, as he presents each song in a unique musical style, and always in a unique way. For example, the songs of Gamehendge; these have become some of their most popular songs, when they haven’t even been released. This is the case with a lot of their songs among the more loyal fans. Furthermore, he has written orchestral arrangements of his own songs for the Vermont Youth Orchestra (Chi, Minnie).
The most creative aspect of Trey, however, is how he plays without limits. He has developed a completely original sound, has incredible talent, and, more importantly in terms of creativity, has imagination. His music cannot be categorized by any genre. Maybe it would be called symphonic rock-jazz-funk; even that doesn’t cover it all. Trey Anastasio was and still is way ahead of his time in music. He understands it. He grows from it, while making it grow himself. He is a modern day Homer, through his music and poetry.
