The analysis of action of Chris in Hotel Asmara project
Engineering is a profession that people should show rigorous and chariness to the occupation and society. As a professional engineer, people should perform the most consciousness of public health and fairness. In the meantime, an engineer should also consider the path of future and find out a method to keep both sides equally. In my opinion, the behavior of Chris makes both sides equally when he was in such dilemma. Not only he adopt the code of ethics, but also his strategy let he get off the difficulty.
According to the Hold paramount, project Hotel Asmara was found a potential safety risk on canopy of its building before it ready to open. It may hurt people when the city has a windy weather. The company will face magnificent plight when the accident happened at opening ceremony when dignitaries shows up. It’s not a responsibility of Chris to solve this potential risk; he just realized this dilemma before the opening ceremony. However, the person who has responsible is already dead in traffic accident. His supervisor gives him very short time to fix it which is not possible. So Chris may become a scapegoat when the accident happened like Chris’s lawyer said if he doesn’t report this situation. Chris can report the situation to Board of PE and department of inspection to force company abort the ceremony. However his action may influence the future of his career in this company. Finally, Chris decided to tell the situation to the manager and let Ken to handle the problem to keep the company safe.
The Term Paper on Chris Rock: Niggas vs. Black People
This paper addresses the identity that is constructed of African-Americans through Rock’s language use of racial speech and taboo language. It also attempts to portray Rock’s function of the skit and the controversial attitudes that arose, including my own. 1. 0 Introduction ‘Sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never hurt you’. Unfortunately for Randall Kennedy this limerick held ...
It’s unethical for Chris if he didn’t tell anything truth, according to the ASCE code of ethical, “Engineers whose professional judgment is overruled under circumstances where the safety, health and welfare of the public are endangered, or the principles of sustainable development ignored, shall inform their clients or employers of the possible consequences.”(Cannon 1) Engineer should put public safety in the priority position. So Chris does the right choice when he faced the situation whether he should tell truth to his supervisor. However, the behavior of his supervisor which is Sarah and Joe is unethical. They violate the ASCE code of ethical, which is “Engineers shall perform services only in areas of their competence. And engineers shall undertake to perform engineering assignments only when qualified by education or experience in the technical field of engineering involved.” (Cannon 2).
Because the potential risk of canopy isn’t responsibility of Chris, so he doesn’t need to pay any liability when the accident happened. Sarah and Joe give Chris very short time to fix the problem, which may doesn’t violate the code of ethical however gives Chris no choice but ask his lawyer for solution.
Chris should report the truth which is an ethical solution in such situation. His lawyer gives him three places that he can tell the truth. His lawyer suggests him to tell this issue to the Board of Professional Engineering. Although this department has no authority to let company stop the project immediately, it can expose the issue to the public and force the company. Chris doesn’t choose this method because his career in this company may be ended badly if he turned his company in. Chris believes the risk is potential, and it will cost him a lot if the accident isn’t happened. It will lead Chris jump out of one dilemma to another, so his doesn’t consider this as his opinion. Chris cannot estimate the possibility of risk, so he cannot make such decision to slander the company with groundless reason. According to the ASCE code of ethical, “Engineers shall be scrupulously honest in their control and spending of monies, and promote effective use of resources through open, honest” (Cannon 6), Chris cannot report any issues with verification. Otherwise his license may be revoked or even more serious.
The Coursework on Ethical & Legal Issues in Counseling
Counselors like any other medical professionals are guided by professional ethics when it comes to performance of their duties. More often than not, mental health professions are usually faced with the challenge to observe ethical guidelines and legal concerns due to the unique criteria that comes with their job. Primarily, the ethical requirement requires the confidentiality, privacy, and ...
His lawyer also suggests him to report this issue to proper department like city department of building inspection. This department has enough authority to force company to stop the project immediately. Chris may gain recognize from the public; his behavior surely comply with the code of ethical. He may become a moral hero of society; however, he must consider his career of future. He got very little chance continues work at this company, he must think about which company he can go. It will spend him a lot of time to prepare the future, and there are a lot of factor that he should think about. So Chris doesn’t take this opinion. Thirdly, the lawyer mention Chris that he should report it to media and use propaganda to terminate the project. Although Chris can reach the goal and serve the public, it will ruin the relationship between him and company. It will also influence his future career in this company; moreover, the credibility of Chris may be questioned before the issue is verified. It doesn’t have any benefit to both sides if Chris let public know this truth.
After the considering, Chris decides to report this issue to his supervisor and let somebody else to take care of the risk. I think his behavior is ethical because according to the ASCE code of ethical Cannon 2 that engineer should pay attention to the area of their competence. So he should find someone else who has responsibility for this issue to solve the problem.
