The Massacre at Wounded Knee was a terrible battle in American History. This massacre was between the Native Americans and the US government. Back then; the US government hated Native Americans. They would treat Native Americans horribly by killing them, stealing their land and much more.
One early and freezing morning on December 29th, 1890, an elderly chief of the Sioux Indians named Big Foot marched to the banks of Wounded Knee creek. Over 350 of his followers marched with him and camped there. Around Wounded Knee creek was US government troops that were going to arrest Big Foot and take all of his followersfollower’s weapons away. Many different controversies started all of this trouble. The Sioux tribe had no buffalo, and they couldn’t roam wherever they wanted. It was almost like the US government just had them trapped. They couldn’t go where they wanted to without the US government trying to destroy their lives.
Some people from the Sioux tribe were sent on a mission to Nevada. The reason they did this was to hear the wise words from Paiute prophet/man named Wovake. This man spoke of a new soil that was going to cover the earth, and Indians would live in peace again. He also said they were to dance the “Ghost Dance.” This dance would protect them from the US government.
Later on the Indians started to represent the “Ghost Dance” which brought fear to some of the US. They thought the Indians have gone crazy, and they needed to kill them for protection. The military took action by killing Sitting Bull on December 25th, and Big Foot was going to be the next one killed.
The Essay on Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre
The company was founded in 1958; this was incredible because of the intense prejudice taking place at this time, not only were they a black company but they created a unique new kind- of dance mixing together for the first time; ballet, traditional African American dance, and modern. This was all possible thanks to dancer and choreographer Mr. Alvin Ailey. Ailey had a unique philosophy. He made ...
Big Foot heard about Sitting Bull’s death and led him and his tribe to the south. They tried to settle at Pine Ridge reservation, but the US stopped the plan and they retreated to the edge of Wounded Knee. Not long after did things start to go downhill. Big Foot was dieingdying of pneumonia, and the US Military attacked. Military men fired at the Sioux tribe. Men, women, and children all fled for their lives, many people ran away. That say over three hundred men, woman, and children were brutally murdered. Afterward a blizzard hit, and the parties of men left and there sat corpses of the innocent tribe frozen under the blizzard of snow. “Strom, The Massacre at Wounded Knee, hanksvile.org, Karen M. I watched some of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee online, some really good quotes I got out of it were. “And who gave us the guns and powder to kill our enemies? And who traded weapons to the Chippewa and others who drove us from our home?” said my Sitting Bull. “Brown, Dee. Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. An Indian History of the American West.”
I believe the name was changed from “Battle of Wounded Knee” to “Massacre at Wounded Knee” for a good reason. A massacre is act of slaughtering, and murdering a huge number of people. When I researched about The Massacre at Wounded Knee, I don’t understand how it could have been a battle.
One reason I think it couldn’t even be called a battle is because the tribe was not prepared for it. Normally battles are planned and know itsits coming. The US government just showed up out of the blue, and started slaughtering many men, women, and children. I don’t see how this could not be called a massacre.
The Massacre at Wounded Knee was a severe defeat. While I was researching I learned that only about 25 US military men died. Meanwhile over 300 tribe members died. They fled for their lives, but they didn’t win.
When people think of a battle, they normally think of like the battle of Lexington and Concord, or some type of actual battle. When you think about this subject of the Wounded Knee Massacre it is clear it wasn’t a battle. So many young, young and old lives were taken that day. When I look at that story I just don’t see it being a battle. As you can see many lives were lost at this massacre. I wish back then they didn’t treat Native Americans so poorly. I wish they could have sorted things out without going on this massacre and killing 300 men, women, and children. It is really sad to me seeing, and reading about this. The Indians were helpless and could not defend themselves. They had nothing else to do then just try to, or run away. Which did not turn out victorious in the end, as you can see.
The Essay on White Man Tribe Community People
The New Guinea cargo plane cult from a functionalist perspective stresses that the un-industrialization of the cult is due to the developed world not sharing technological advances with the tribe (cult). The tribe leader's ability to explain the purpose of the cargo planes and the tribe's inability to succeed with riches like that of the white man had a large affect on the tribe's belief system. ...
