The British Army, together with the UK’s other armed forces, is responsible for the defence of the United Kingdom. It also performs many peace keeping operations and is currently deployed in over 80 countries around the world. For example, shortly after the invasion of Iraq, the British Army were peacekeeping by patrolling the borders between Iraq and Iran to prevent confliction between the countries. It is in the role of the British Army to make security for our country and its allies. It is also the British Army’s responsibility to give aid in disasters. For example, the British Army giving aid to India in 2003 to provide shelter for people that had their homes destroyed.
The Army are also responsible for being an emergency service if there are any major problems where other services need back up. For example, the Army nearly had to be called in to help with the summer riots 2011 as there was not enough Police to deal with it. The United Kingdom’s mainland, coasts and territories are protected by the Army and are here to support national policy and implement national objectives to prevent invasion.
