My book is called The Crossing by Gary Paulsen. What The Crossing is basically about is a boy, Manny Busts, who is poor and has no family and lives on the streets of Juarez Mexico. He is destine to get across the bridge to the North Side to find a job and make money. He meets a sergeant who changes his point of view on people a teaches him life lessons about the truth. The main conflict of the book is that Manny tries to take money from a drunk mans wallet, that he sees in the alley of a club one on night. They keep meeting up with each other.
Manny and the man form a friendship. What I thought about the book was that this book teaches you what it’s like in other countries that are poor. It’s very sad to think that some children go without food for weeks at a time, even months. I think more people who had all this money in the foreign countries would help out with food for the children who have to raid the garbage cans for food.
A quote that i liked from the book is when the sergeant was about to be killed by the men it’s says ” They had knives, silver blades in the dark, and he could do nothing and he was afraid of by dying, but the sergeant had no fear.” I would recommend this book to you, Lisa because it’s a very good book to learn about what it’s really like in the foreign countries. You’d like it.
