“The Diary of a Young Girl” is a famous book written by a 13-year-old Jewish girl named Anneliese Marie “Anne” Frank who wrote a diary which she named Kitty. She received this diary in 1942 on her thirteenth birthday. She kept this diary because she wanted the diary to be her friend. She wrote this diary while hiding in their father’s office with her family in Amsterdam, Netherlands from the German Nazis during World War II. They called this secret hiding place the “Secret Annexe. ” Anne told Kitty that all Jews including her friends were thrown out of their land and placed in concentration camps.
Another family arrived, the Van Daans, with their son Peter. Anne did not like silly Mrs. Van Daan. She often got frustrated because the grown-ups criticized her often. As a young girl, Anne was very talkative that is why she was nicknamed “Incurable Chatterbox. ” She was always happy, lively, and humorous in everything she did. She loved her Daddy dearly. When he got sick, they could not call a doctor since they were hiding. She found her Mummy cold so she did not say prayers for her. Sometimes, she also got jealous of Margot. Anne could not sleep well due to the air raids.
Sometimes she went to bed crying because she was greatly affected by the conflict. They were eating awfully-dry bread with ersatz coffee for breakfast and for dinner, spinach and rotten potatoes. But even then, Anne still felt blessed that they have food and shelter and they have books to read and a radio playing. Anne often felt guilty for her safety while her Jewish friends were maybe suffering. When a message came that Italy has surrendered, this gave them hope for peace. Anne and Peter Van Daan developed a special attraction with each other. She worried that she talked so much but he liked her cheerful attitude.

She wanted to make him happy. The grown-ups were against their relationship. Later, she became disappointed at Peter and did not want him to depend on her. Anne wanted to publish her diary after she heard that they were going to make a compilation of diaries and letters after the war. She has faith that God will take them out of their suffering and that one day, the world will learn from the Jews. Even if she was often depressed, she was never really miserable. She looked at the brighter side of life. People always made bad comments about Anne no matter what she did. In fact, she was considered an insufferable baby.
She also wished to be different from what she was and what she wanted to be. But to her this was not possible because she was a Jew and there was nothing she can do to change that. Anne celebrated her fifteenth birthday and she wished that she could look at nature more often but not through a dirty window. Many cities have surrendered to the Allies and the atmosphere was full of hopefulness and optimism. In the midst of the brutality of war, Anne still believed that people are really good at heart. People may think she was superficial but deep inside her was a pure heart. Eventually, Anne Frank died.
Her diary had its last entry on August 1, 1944 when the Secret Annexe was raided on August 4, 1944 and they were taken away to German and Dutch concentration camps. I feel sad for Anne for she was often misunderstood. I feel sad that she died young. But I appreciate her goodness and kindness despite the cruelty of war. Wars only cause pain and death. Therefore, wars should be avoided as much as possible. References Frank, Anne. Diary of a Young Girl. Introduction by Eleanor Rossevelt, translated by B. M.
