The life span of adulthood continues and is not the endpoint of development. An individual continually change from birth to adolescence after adolescent a person will change about five or six years later, there is hardly any change in adulthood, and when they become older adult thing begin to change considerably. (Santrock, 2012) During the time of adulthood a person go through several changes which will include finances, romance, and residence.
When evaluating the changes that an adult went through during adulthood 200 individuals between the ages of 17 and 27 it showed when a change was made it effected changes in other domains in one’s life. When only two people were interviewed the assumption of independency of their life was different and did not compare to the 200 people that was interviewed and this was done on the bases of the dynamic system theory when they compared the different domains. Several different studies have been done when it comes to adulthood.
Once a person graduate from college they will take on a different responsibility as an adult such as they will focus on their careers and perhaps get married and start a family after they turn 30 years of age. (Arnett, 2000) People that do not complete college or constantly return home during their college years do not succeed well in finances, family, and relationships this is an imbalance within the process of adulthood this is a drastic change in domains.
Bothe of theses situation are separated but they do intertwine but the change that occur does bring about the regulatory function to ones identity in developing and maintaining a cohesive sense of self. (Berzonsky, 1990; Lerner et al, 2001, Sneed and Witbourne, 2003).

Part 2: Passage to Adulthood A rite of passage is a ceremony or ritual that marks an individual’s transition from one status to another, into adulthood. It primitive cultures, rites of passage are often well defined.
In contemporary American, rites of passage to adulthood are ill-defined. Santrock, 2012) In different traditional cultures, rites of passage are the avenue through which adolescents gain access to sacred adult practices, to knowledge, and to sexuality. Rite of passage can mean the separation from immediate family members. (Santrock, 2012) This transformation can be some form of ritual death and rebirth, or the contact of the spiritual word where bonds are forged between the adolescent and the adult instructor share rituals, hazards, and secrets that are allow the adolescent to become an adult.
In Africa boy paint their face and undergo ceremonies for rite of passage to adulthood. This is beginning to fade out it is not as common anymore. In America the rite of passage can be an adolescent graduating from high school. The Jews have bat mitzvah. Younger adults do not finish school nor have jobs which will put them in the position of not to qualify for social security. This will cause them to fail as the transition into adulthood is limited for them and have limited association in the future of society. (Settersten, 2007) The passage to adulthood has changed over the years. Different cultures are no longer following the rituals they once did for the right of passage to adulthood. People are looking at the right of passage to adulthood as finishing high school, finishing college, getting married, having a family, and maintaining a career.
With people returning to college at an older age as well as the younger adult’s just entering college it shows that jobs are less permanent. (Settersten, 2007) Here in the United States parent are going out of their way to help young adults to try to become responsible adults while making the transition into adulthood. When making this passage into adulthood for those in their twenties and early thirties parents show on a large scale downward material and emotional support. (Schoeni & Ross, 2005) While taking this course Human Growth and Development my perspective have not changed much.
