Good evening everyone and welcome to our fabulous journey inside the respiratory system. I am Alice and I will be your tour guide this evening on this amazing adventure to the lower right lobe of the lung. The right lung consists of three lobes; they are the right superior lobe, the right middle lobe, and the tight inferior lobe. They are responsible for keeping the lungs properly working (onlineschools, 2012).
Let’s see how fabulous journey works out. We are going to be traveling through the body of a healthy female singer. We will be traveling in style through the system of the body. We have the submarine ready with all we will need on our voyage now all we do is push the shrink button. Today I will be accompanied by some of my family and dear friends to help me along this journey. They are Angela, Katelynn, Ruby, and Gossett. Dr. Herbert will be assisting us with getting an inside look at the amazing body, also we will have a great front role seat watching the human body in action against an issue the unknown bacterium. After we have shrunk ourselves to be injected into the femoral vein, Dr. Herbert will place us in a syringe and send us on our way to an extraordinary journey.
The ride through the syringe will be just like going down a big slide at the water park. Let’s get the fabulous journey underway. Hold on tight because here we go. We have just loaded the mini submarine and been shrank down small enough to fit in the syringe. Doctor Herbert is now injecting us into the body of this young singer. We will be starting our journey today at the femoral vein of a healthy female singer. We just got word that we must attempt to make our way to the lower lobe of the right lung. Along our way we will be going through the following veins and arteries: the right external iliac vein, the right common iliac vein, the inferior vena cava, the right auricle, the right ventricle, the pulmonary artery and the right pulmonary artery. While in route to the right lung we will be discussing the major functions of each of these areas of the body and discussing what major structures we pass along the way.

Once we reach the lower lobe of the right lung our job is to watch and determine how the body fights off this unknown bacterium that is invading the lungs. We need to get her prepared for her spring festival she will be singing in tonight. We only have an hour to figure this out before our mini submarine starts enlarging; we are going to watch the body hard at work to ensure that this singer stays healthy. First let us start with the point of entry the right femoral vein in which we are currently located. As we travel through the right femoral vein in the mini submarine located in the right leg of this healthy female vocalist I am going to explain the function of each passage way we are about to encounter along the way to the lower lobe of the right lung. Let us start with the femoral vein. The femoral vein is a vein that is accompanied by the femoral artery in the same sheath. The femoral vein later becomes the external iliac vein (The Free Dictionary, 2012).
From the right external iliac vein we travel to the right common iliac vein. According to The Free Dictionary (2012), the common iliac vein is formed by the internal and external iliac veins; unites with its fellow from the opposite side of the body to form the inferior vena cava. The common iliac vein is one of three veins that drain the pelvic area (The Free Dictionary, 2012).

From the inferior vena cava we travel to the right auricle followed by the right ventricle. Then from the right ventricle we travel to the pulmonary artery. The pulmonary artery is an artery that carries venous blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs (The Free Dictionary, 2012).
From the pulmonary artery we travel to the right pulmonary artery located in the heart. The heart is the main organ in the body that pumps the blood throughout the body to keep the body alive. Now we are onto the right lung. What structures of the lungs play the most important part in the process of fighting off the bacterium?
First the good bacteria located in the lobe of the right lung works to kill the intruding bacteria. If that doesn’t work the white blood cells also called leukocytes, mainly the Neutrophils take over the job of the friendly bacteria and kill the invading bacterium. After the bacterium is killed it is then taken to your colon to be removed from the body as waste. This is very amazing that our lungs fight off bacteria naturally without the help of antibiotics. Now that the bacterium is gone let’s get out of here before we are returned to normal size. Now we must cross the alveolar membrane to begin our journey out of the body through the nose.
The carbon dioxide comes out the same way the oxygen comes into the body. From the Alveolar membrane the carbon goes out of the blood stream at the same time the oxygen is being brought into the lung. Now we are traveling to the alveoli, then to the bronchioles. From the bronchioles we travel to the main bronchi. From there we will be traveling through the windpipe also called the trachea. Finally from the trachea we will be traveling through the nasal cavity and out of the nose. This completes our fabulous journey of how the lungs fight off bacterium. Now let’s get back to normal size and go watch this singer perform in the spring festival. It has been a pleasure to take you all on this fabulous journey through the right lung.
