Life has its challenges, and savior figures are here to make those challenges easier. In The Hobbit, J. R. R. Tolkien puts in savior figures to show that if one is lucky enough to get saved, they must learn from their experiences and be prepared to help others. Gandalf, Elrond, and Bard are all savior figures because, among other attributes, they are compassionate, courageous, and wise and because of them, Bilbo becomes faithful and unselfish. Gandalf, Elrond, and Bard are savior figures because they are caring, courageous, and wise. Gandalf is a savior figure because he saves Bilbo and the dwarves from the goblins. Gandalf helps Bilbo and the dwarves in a very helpless situation, and without Gandalf, they never would have made it to the Misty Mountains. Gandalf shows his compassion and kindness, along with his skill, to help the dwarves and Bilbo through many different situations throughout the story. In fact, Gandalf appears in just the right time when hope is almost lost. Elrond is a savior figure because he helps the dwarves and Bilbo when they are low on food and supplies.
Elrond sees that the dwarves and Bilbo are tired and weary from their journey and are low in spirit, so he gave them food, shelter, and supplies for their long trip ahead. Elrond did not have to give them supplies, he could have let them go straight through Ravendale, but he did not. He stopped and cared for them, and really boosted their self-confidence and saved them from starvation. Bard is a savior figure because he was courageous in fighting the dragon, while protecting others, and ended up doing greatness. Bard could have fled like everyone else in the town when the dragon came, but he stayed strong. He knew it was important to stay, defend the village, and fight the good fight. By making that choice, he ended up doing greatness by killing the dragon. He was courageous and strong and he saved everyone in the town. Gandalf, Elrond, and Bard all have an important role in showing the importance of having savior figures. In The Hobbit, if one is lucky enough to be saved, they need to learn from their experiences and be prepared to help others.

After being saved by Gandalf, Elrond and Bard, Bilbo becomes a savior figure that is courageous and unselfish. For example, when the spiders were attacking the dwarves, Bilbo was faithful to the dwarves and helped them escape from the spiders. Once Bilbo had the sudden epiphany of courage, he went and helped the dwarves. Even when the dwarves went off the appointed trail and disobeyed their orders, which led them to the spiders, Bilbo still went to rescue them. Like most things in life, we have a decision to face our fears or flee. Bilbo faced his fear and helped the dwarves escape the spiders and Bilbo’s new courage helps him accomplish his goals. In addition, Bilbo also showed the characteristic of unselfishness. When the dwarves were trapped by the wood elves, Bilbo could have left the dwarves and walked out, but he stayed with them and eventually helped them escape. He put other’s needs before his own. He packed up each dwarf in the barrel and made sure they were safe and then he put the ring on and stayed with the dwarves.
The dwarves didn’t deserve Bilbo’s kindness, especially after all their negative comments during the journey, but Bilbo was unselfish and helped the dwarves anyway. Bilbo learns from Gandalf, Elrond and Bard that it is important to save others, even when they do not deserve it, even if it means putting yourself in harms way. In conclusion, we learn that Gandalf, Elrond, and Bard are all savior figures and because of them Bilbo becomes a savior figure also. We learn from The Hobbit that if one is lucky enough to be saved, they need to learn from their experiences and be prepared to help others. It is important to have a savior figure in one’s life because they can help you out of situations and help you grow as a person.
