The Hound of the Baskervilles was written by Arthur Conan Doyle in the august 1901,and was published in The Strand Magazine in April 1902.This book is not the only one: it is the third book in the Sherlock Holmes series. The genre of this book is detective: all other books from the Sherlock Holmes Series is written in the same genre. The Hound of the Baskervilles was listed in the BBC in 2003 as the “best-loved novel”. The action starts in the family house of the Baskervilles, Baskervilles Hall. The owner of this house, Charles Baskerville, was founded dead in the alley of the moor. Dr. Mortimer, friend of the Sir Charles Baskerville, going to London to ask a Sherlock Holmes about help to find what is going on with the Baskerville Hall. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson decided to help, Because Mr. Holmes did not believe to the curse of the Baskerville family (that big hound chasing all the members of the family who enter the moor during the night).
Another member of the family arrives from Canada – Sir Henry Baskerville, already a bit shocked because of the curse. When he arrived, he received the note that he should stay away from the moor. Mr. Holmes immediately realized that the words were taken from the yesterday newspaper The Times, except the word “moor”.
Then, when Sir Henry went back to his hotel, Sherlock Holmes with Dr. Watson found that someone chasing him. And there was another strange thing: someone has taken the shoes of the Sir Henry. Mr. Holmes decided to send Dr. Watson with Sir Henry back to family house as a security guard. When he was asked why he do not going, he said that he has other business to do. So here all the action starts. Of course, there are a lot of important scenes, but it is better to consider interest ones. For example, scene when Barrymore was caught with his wife that they help to an escaped prisoner, Selden. They said that he is brother of the Barrymore’s wife, and they said that he will try to kill them. The interesting thing that Barrymore and his wife gave him old clothes of the Sir Henry to this prisoner without asking anyone. Consequently, this thing will save the life of the Sir Henry. Another interested scene, when Sir Henry was trying to make love with Mrs. Stapleton. Her “brother”, Mr. Stapleton, was trying to do everything to prevent it. And he explained it as that he has a phobia that someone will break the heart of his sister.

The Hound of the Baskervilles 1. Conan Doyle, Arthur. 1976. The Hound of The Baskervilles. Andor Publishing Inc. Park Ridge, New Jersey. 255 pages. 2. The story takes place during the late eighteen hundreds early nineteen hundreds. The beginning of the story is based in London, England, while the rest is based in Devonshire, and Coombe Tracy England. The setting in this story had a great effect on ...
For the reader, that fact might be a bit strange, because Mr. Stapleton was really angry, when he saw his sister with Mr. Baskerville. Also, The quite exciting scene when Mr. Holmes explains that all the time when Dr. Watson was at the Baskerville Hall, he was at the same location. Reader should be shocked at this moment of the story, because the strange man who Dr. Watson saw during the night was Sherlock Holmes. I, as a reader, was really impressed, when Dr. Watson was trying to hide from “someone” who lives in the cave, and then, when that “someone” came, he took the cigarette, which Dr. Watson threw before, and immediately realized that it was Dr. Watson. Of course, only one man can do so – Sherlock Holmes. As it was mentioned before, escaped prisoner, Selden, had saved the life of the Sir Henry Baskerville. When Sir Henry went away to the moor during the night, he heard the scream of the man.
Also, Dr. Watson heard it, and of course he was running to the place where that scream was. When he saw a man lying on a stones, firstly he thought that it was Sir Henry, because this man was dressed in brown jacket of the Sir Henry. But later, Dr. Watson realized that it is not Sir Henry. Barrymore gave this jacket to the Selden, and that hound, which was “chasing the family”, haunting by the smell. So, Sir Henry was alive, and hound was mistaken. In my opinion, one of the interest moments in the novel is when Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson and Lestrade went to Merripit House to catch Mr. Stapleton. When they got in, they found Mrs. Stapleton imprisoned in the bedroom, and when she became free, she told them of Stapleton’s hideout deep in Grimpen Mire. And while this process, reader realize that all what was happening bad, was because of the Mr. Stapleton, and the curse was just a tail.

First one and one of the main characters is Sherlock Holmes, who lives in the famous Baker Street, and who is the most famous detective in London. In this book he shows his power of deduction and logic. From the very beginning, he did not believe that the legend about the Baskerville’s curse is real. And, finally he proves it. Second one, and also one of the main characters is Doctor Watson. He is brilliant doctor, and the assistant of the Sherlock Holmes in all the crimes. Without Watson, probably, Mr. Holmes was unable to solve this problem about hound. Third one is Hugo Baskerville. This character actually does not shown in the novel. But the curse starts from him when he went out to the Dart moor during the night drunk. Fourth character is Sir Charles Baskerville. He is described as “a small, alert, dark-eyed man about thirty years of age, very sturdily built.” Unfortunately, he was murdered in the beginning of the story. Actually, he died because of the heart disease, but the killer, Mr. Stapleton, was trying to kill Sir Charles by the hound.

The whole novel, he is trying to assist to Mr. Holmes and Watson to understand what is happening around. The sixed and seventh characters are Mr. Jack Stapleton and Mrs. Beryl Stapleton. Furthermore, in this novel, writer willing to show us a simple thing: that everything in the world has a logical explanation, and any problem can be solved. Also, he wants to show us that we should not afraid of the problem. Firstly we should deal in this problem, and try to find solutions. I have chosen this book, because I assume that it is one of the most interest book which I ever read. The sequence of the scenes is very exciting, and the end is even more impressive then beginning. I would recommend it to everyone, because this book will help to the self-developing because of the hidden second meaning in the connotation. For example, when Dr. Watson first time meet Mr. Stapleton, writer was trying to show that first impression if wrong. And in the novel, there are a lot of such moments with the hidden meaning. Thus, I really enjoyed when I read The Hound of the Baskervilles, and I would recommend this book to everyone as example of deduction, logic, and intellect.
