Ever since I found out I was going to be a mother, I began to hear so many things about the importance of nutrition when it came to my unborn child. After I had my child, I was informed by everyone from my mother, to my sisters, to my grandmother, to the pediatrician how important it would be for me to keep my child health and nutrition played the biggest role in doing so.
Nutrition is very important in that it encourages breast feeding, the best way to feed your infant, and ensures that your child will avoid malnutrition, and discourages childhood obesity in toddlers. When I had my newborn in my arms, the first thing the nurse told me was “I’m not sure if you decided to breast feed but it’s the best way to feed him, hands down”. While I was pregnant, I had learned so much about breast feeding and how it would be the best form of nourishment for my baby. I was amazed when I learned of how many benefits there were to breast feeding.
The Term Paper on Importance Of Teaching Nutrition In Schools
Nutrition should be taught as a part of the health curriculum because, it is important for children to learn healthy lifestyle behaviors. “Nutrition is the area of health that focuses on planning a healthful diet and includes choosing a variety of foods from the Food Guide Pyramid, adhering to dietary guidelines, reading food labels, making food selections to reduce the risk of disease, making ...
Breastfeeding not only was the best way to feed my baby but it kept my baby from being susceptible to so many illnesses; “Diarrhea, respiratory infections, otitis media (an infection of the middle ear), and staphylococcal, bacterial, and urinary tract infections” are examples of some of these illnesses (Papalia, 2008, p. 147).
I made it very important to me to research breastfeeding and find out everything my child would gain. I was amazed at how many health benefits there are to babies who are breastfed. When I breastfed my son I felt closer to him and was proud that I was giving him the best form of nutrition possible.
Malnutrition, the insufficient or imbalanced, consumption of nutrients is a something that could affect the child if they do not receive proper nutrition. According to the text, malnutrition in early life is widespread- and often fatal; Malnutrition is implicated in more than half of deaths of children globally, and many children are reversibly damaged by age 2 (p. 148).
In order to prevent underweight, growth stunting, and even death, the mother should make sure she is nourished during pregnancy, ensure that her infant is well nourished, and her toddler as well.
I recently learned that “more than half of all child deaths are associated with malnutrition, which weakens the body’s resistance to illness; Poor diet, frequent illness, and inadequate or inattentive care of young children can lead to malnutrition” (Mother and child Nutrition, 2009, para. 1-2).
” Childhood obesity, Obesity is the result of caloric imbalance (too few calories expended for the amount of calories consumed) I read that it is mediated by genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors. Childhood obesity has both immediate and long-term health impacts (CDC, 2001, para. 2).
I believe that nutrition is important in this case because there are so many health risks involved in childhood obesity. There is also a chance that this can follow a child into adulthood. There are so many other diseases that are associated with childhood obesity like high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, and even at risk for joint problems and sleep apnea. Two ways I know for sure to lower the risks of having these issues are to have a healthy diet and to stay active. Our first lady, Michelle Obama, has begun a campaign against childhood obesity and I have learned a lot about preventing and eliminating the disease.
The Essay on Childs Author Obesity Children
Greg Critter in his article "Too much of a good thing" tries to bring a valid point of stigmatising overeating in children. The author strongly advocates parental advice in a childs diet. It is very important that the adults in these children’s lives set examples of healthy eating and healthy living. In doing this paper on the importance of nutrition in infants and toddlerhood, I have learned a lot that I am sure will be useful to me in keeping my children healthy. I know that I am on the right path breastfeeding my daughter who is five months as well as preparing balanced snacks and meals for my son who is three years old. I know that now and in the years ahead, it will be very important to keep my children active and healthy.
I am very excited and proud that I am able to breastfeed my daughter and ensure that so many illnesses will be prevented because of that. I am also happy that I can be confident that I am providing my children with enough nutrients and proper meals so that there will be no chance of malnutrition. I also will not allow overeating of the wrong foods and will encourage healthy eating habits and exercise. I am very ready to use what I have learned to keep my children healthy by making certain they are receiving proper nutrition.
