Children have to be active every day. Physical activity stimulates growth and leads to improved physical and emotional health. Today, research shows that the importance of physical activity in children is stronger than ever. For example, medical researchers have observed that highly active children are less likely to suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer of the colon, obesity, and coronary heart disease later in life. Through playing ,children can learn the basics of communication, coordination and maybe even calculation.
For example, when the children are playing football, they must have good communication and coordination skills. Besides,children also learn through exploration as they are eager to learn new things,especially if it involves outdoor activities. Children also learn through their environment. They observe and imitate what adults do. For example, if a teacher teaches his students to wash their hands properly before eating , the students would follow as he instructed because they have observe how the teacher performs it. Children can learn to be conscious about nutritious food intake, proper exercises and develop their motor skills. Children would learn about types of food and its calories from the food pyramid and the basic exercises.
Sports let the children to learn sense of belonging to a group. They would learn to build friendship among their teammates. They can learn to develop leadership and teamwork skills. Children can develop positive body image and self-esteem. They learn to be conscious about how they look like and should behave and maybe even change their bad habits. Therefore, parents should have an active involvement with their children in sports. Parents should give emotional support and positive feedback to help their children handle disappointment and feeling in losing a game.
