I am a wine drinker and when I saw this company on the list I thought it was right up my alley to report on it. The Kudler Fine Foods is type of market that can offer people many different things. There are gourmet breads, fancy cheeses, and of course their wine. All of these wonderful things have come from around the country. Kathy Kudler founded the store in 1988 and it has been very successful and they have even opened two more stores. Just like all company’s Kudler has had their ups and downs with the economy and keeping their company up in an ethically stature.
They have made sure this essential status has stayed it their everyday procedures to keep their customers and to bring in new ones. One of their first problems would be an ethical problem and they had to bring in their legal advisor. Their legal team that has put in place an ethics and morals plan that each of their store fronts to follow with the help of Kathy Kudler’s sister in law even though she is not really a lawyer but, an accountant for them and helps where she can.
Kathy Kudler has an open door policy throughout the company for all employees, even though not everyone that is employed there has access to talk to her. Kudler is the only one that will speak to and that is usually over the phone. If there is a problem, then on of the managers has to take it to Kudler and let her in on the problem. They do not however take all legal problems to Kudler, just the ones the need help on. As any business it is best to have actual legal counsel.

It is best to someone outside the family because business and family does not always go well together. This way if one of the employees has a legal problem they will feel free to get advice from the legal team within the company in a professional and confidential area of the company. Kudler Fine Foods stores are situated on approximately 8,000 square feet of retail space where we have different department. We currently have a bakery, meat and seafood, produce, cheese and diary, and wine department.
The bakery department is where we make our fresh breads and pastries including fruit tarts, table loaves, flat bread and the flakiest croissants in Southern California. We make our breads from the freshest and finest ingredients in the world. For the meat and seafood department, we get our products from certified organic producers. Every meat and seafood orders are fresh and prepared when the order is placed. We carry a variety of products from dry, aged beef to home-made sausages to live lobsters. The produce department carries over 350 fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices.
We even have an Asian Specialty Produce department where we carry the produce, herbs and spices that are the staples of Asian cooking. Our produce department carries both organic and inorganic varieties for the budget conscious. We have a complete line of the finest Dairy products including Irish butter and organic milk. We carry over 250 different types of cheeses and we also offer cheese made from cow, goat, and sheep milk. We have an extensive collection of wine, domestic and imported. We carry a wide variety of spirits and at prices that cannot be beaten.
While the list is extensive we also have a Wine Steward that will be able to assist you with your needs. As of recently we have been receiving some surveys back from some of our customers about the quality of our foods at the Del Mar store location. They have been stating that the seafood is not fresh as it has been in the past and that they are feeling leery of doing business with us in the future. Even though there only have been a few bad surveys it is still a concern. I asked the manager at that location what is going on with the quality of the seafood.

The manager stated that they had to start using a different carrier to deliver the seafood because of the old carrier changing their route at the last minute but they used the new carrier only once and when they found out that their not using the correct refrigeration techniques that we prefer we quickly dismissed them as our primary carrier. The batch that they delivered yielded about 500 pounds of shrimp, 300 pounds of chicken, 200 pounds of lamb, and 50 pounds of duck. We have found out that we still have some of the inventory from that delivery and have sent it off for examination and have gotten the result back.
Of that delivery some of the shrimp seemed to have been contaminated. The dilemma that we are running into is that we only have 250 pounds of shrimp from that delivery left behind so there is no telling how much contaminated shrimp we have sold. We have not had any reports of food poisoning but this has got to be the worst case that this company has yet to combat. We have did away with the remaining amount of shrimp that we had from that delivery, but we are faced with how we will or will not let the public know about what has happened. We are trying to open another store in San Diego, which will be the biggest store that we have.
With this news we will definitely feel it in the revenue that we are trying to bring in and the new store that we are trying to open. In conclusion Kathy Kudler has a thriving company that will be here in the future if she continues the path that she is going today. This company has a great way of keeping their customers satisfied and their employees even happier and this in my eyes are a good combination. A person that is looking at entertaining or just wants some good wine and cheese they can look into Kudler Fine Foods and get all that they every thought that they could get from a company.
