The lord of the rings trilogy was started in 1995 when Peter jackson gained the rights to the Lord of the Rings. He then set about creating his own design team at the Weta Workshop, Wellington. Then Jackson set about trying to find somebody to produce and fund his movie. This is where things went wrong. Originally the only willing participant were Miramax who said the film had to only be two parts instead of the trilogy, the books are. When Jackson was told by Miramax that he had to shorten the whole trilogy to one film he got up and left.
It was nearly the end for what had only just begun but there was one last hope, New Line Cinema. Jackson had one last visit to make to New Line Cinema in hope that they would fund the movie (he expected another double film).
When he made a presentation to New Line the first thing they said was: ‘we gotta make three movies from this.’ That was 8 years ago. Today we are anticipating the release of one of the biggest films of all time. The technology involved is immense.
The CGI gollum charachters, the huge miniatures of Isengard (home of Saruman) and Bharat-dur (Sauron) tower over 20 ft tall. Then there is the amazing cast. Elijah Wood pulls Frodo of to every expectation, the amazing Liv Tyler as Arwen adds that little bit extra to the films. Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, Orlando Bloom as Legolas and John Ryas-Davies as Gimli are the perfect choice for three completely different charachters. Then theres the legends that are: Dominic monaghan and Billy Boyd, two people that seem extremely funny from the small amount of extras i’ve seen. It was no mean feet and our hats have to be taken of at the marvel that is Peter Jackson for creating such amazing films..
