David, King of Jews, possessed every weakness and sin that “a man of blood” is capable and yet God still showered and bestowed him with abundant blessings. He was the adulterer of Bathsheba whom he forced to go with him to bed and convinced to lie about her pregnancy to her husband Uriah. He was the murderer of his friend Uriah whom he sent in front of the battlefield if only to own Bathsheba. He was responsible to adultery and murder which are considered to be sins that are detestable in the eyes of God and yet he was still considered to be a great king and was called by God as “the man after His own heart”.
Notwithstanding the fact that he was found guilty of many sins, King David was considered to be the one who was chosen by God as his life perfectly portrays how a man went from being a good shepherd, to a courageous giant slayer, to a great king of Israel, to a man in exile and then to being a great man again. David is the fourth son of Jesse of Bethlehem. At his early childhood, he was chosen by God to succeed Saul as the king of Judah whom God had rejected because of disobedience .
Though he has other older brothers who can better assume the kingship of Saul, God anointed and blessed young David instead since he has seen to have an authentic, incomparable and enduring love for God. As a boy, David was considered to be an obedient and courageous son. He was described as a boy who will courageously fight and kill wolves if only to protect his father’s sheep . David’s courage, furthermore, was even highlighted as he defeated and killed giant Goliath of the Philistines . King Saul’s armies, including David’s three older brothers, were fighting against the Philistines.

In one of their battles, the Israelites found difficulty since nobody can defeat a huge Philistine soldier named Goliath of Gath. Because Goliath was so large and strong, nobody among the soldiers would dare to step and fight against the giant. During that time, Jesse, the father of David, would often send the young David to the battlefields to bring food for his brothers. When young David heard that the giant was cursing his God and making fun of the Hebrew soldiers, he was challenged to give the giant a square fight. David chose not to wear protective combat shields and use swords during the fight.
He instead brought with him a sling and a stone coupled with his great trust and faith with the Lord. In the end of the fight, young David defeated and killed the giant . After young David killed the giant Goliath, he assumed a position at the court of the kingdom of King Saul. He likewise won the friendship over Jonathan, son of Saul. However, even though Saul was delighted with David’s skills as a warrior, musician and politician, Saul became distrustful of David as his successor. David’s popularity among the people ignited the jealousy of King Saul to the young hero.
In order to put David out of his kingdom, he forced the young boy to live alone in the dark and run through the enemy’s territory . King Saul, because of jealousy, even plotted several ways to kill David. But David’s trust to God never tainted and his years of loneliness and trials with God built his great character and unwavering faith. After the death of King Saul, David assumed the kingship of the Hebrew people . During his reign as king of the chosen land, God bountifully and abundantly blessed him with knowledge and skills since his love for God is steadfast and authentic.
David remained humble and pious as he persistently trusted God and tried to obey His will. Even though he endured much persecution from Saul and his other enemies, he did not even lift his hand against Saul when he had the chance to kill the king amidst what Saul had done to him. David had placed all his hope to God that is why he was anointed by God and delivered him from all his enemies. David became a great king of the Jews as what God had promised to him. There were many deeds that he accomplished while he was the king of the chosen land.
The Dissertation on God, King of Hell
Sarah Kuehl Mr. Fisher AP English 12 19 October 2010 God, King of Hell In the medieval age, Catholicism was a dominant, unifying force. All people of the Catholic faith are members of the Roman Catholic Church, with the mission of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. A brilliant poet, Dante Alighieri, lived during the medieval age and used his works to accomplish many things, including spreading ...
During his kingship, he united the people of Israel as he proceeded to maneuver the kingship over Judah and then all the tribes of Israel north of Judah . Also, he was the one who made the ark’s return to Israel’s center of worship possible. Because of this, all the people were praising and rejoicing God before the ark in Jerusalem. Moreover, David, during his kingship, also returned to his home to bless his household. This shows the inner goodness of the king as a son to his father and a younger brother to his other older siblings.
Nevertheless, though he was considered to be meek and pious, David also experienced to disobey God whom he trusted and loved most. Among the sins he committed which are against the will of God include adultery and murder. King David became responsible of the sin adultery when he met a beautiful woman named Bathsheba who was married to his soldier Uriah . Even though he knew that his affair to Bathsheba would lead to adultery, he still pursued his relationship with the woman who became pregnant after he forced her to go to bed with him.
In order to hide his affair with Bathsheba, King David recalled Uriah from battle and pretended that the soldier was the father of Bathsheba’s baby. In this case, King David did not only commit adultery but he likewise committed deception among his people. In the end, King David became the murderer of his friend Uriah as he sent him the soldier in front of the battle lines if only to get Bathsheba as his own wife. Because of these sins committed by the great king of Israel who was chosen and anointed by God, King David’s fall from grace happened.
He was punished by God as he admitted his sins when confronted by Nathan the prophet. His first child with Bathsheba died and he was cursed with the promise of rebellion from his own kingdom. Even though he committed serious sins against the will of God, King David is still considered to be “the man after God’s own heart” since his life only tells that no matter how great a person id in the eyes of the people and God, no one has the capability to resist against sins. King David shows the humanity that no one is without sin.

But what is good on the part of King David is his capacity to repent his sins from God after he disobeyed Him. Though David committed serious disobedience on the will and commandments of God, he still found forgiveness since he immediately showed repentance for the sins he had done. This is thus the reason why God still loves him amidst he fails God for many times. David’s life teaches the people how to maintain faith and love to God even though trials seem to engulf his whole life.
David would not be considered as the greatest king of the Jews without the turmoil that he successfully surpassed. Likewise, through the story of King David, God shows that how big or small the sin that humans have done, there is still room for forgiveness. Despite the sins that King David had done against the will of God, King Davis still received forgiveness and he was even bestowed with more blessings. The same holds true with the life of human beings. King David represents every person in this world.
Though we are sinful and we often disobey the will of God, He still considers everyone of us as “the man after His own heart”. All we need to do is to repent our sins so that we can seek forgiveness from God. In total, King David is indeed worthy to be considered as “the man after God’s own heart” since he managed to maintain his trust and faith to God amidst the trials and sufferings that bombarded his life from the beginning of his journey until he tasted his sweet success in life together with God. The Essay on God Is Pro Life
The reason I am pro-life, and oppose abortion, is because GOD is pro-life, and opposes abortion. Scriptural evidence of this is abundant; consider the words of Ps. 139: 13-14: 'For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.' God then forbids the taking of ...
