INTRO- attention getter: movie trailer How do people float in the air and move in slow motion? That effect is just on of the many special effects the movie The Matrix has. All movies have special effects. It could have a simple effect like and added sound or image. Or it can have more intense effects like the use of blue screens, green screens, wires, props and many more. When I know how the movie makers created their effects it makes it more interesting and exciting. In the movie The Matrix they figured out unique ways to slow down and rotate shots, have characters jump buildings, and show one agent multiple times at once.
I. The Matrix rotating effect A. The Matrix was a movie released in theaters on December 19 in 1997. B. In The Matrix, the film makers created many new special effects. One of the greatest effects the film makers accomplished was the slow motion rotating effect around Keanu Reeves, who was the main character Neo.
They used green screens wires, and about 30 cameras to do this effect. C. To get the rotating effect, they set up about 30 cameras in a circle around the actor. The cameras are held up by support that is green or painted green. The actor will do the action at normal speed as the cameras around them take pictures in order. By taking the pictures they get the rotating effect but not the background or the slow motion.

The Matrix jump In the scene where Morpheus jumps off of a building and then Neo tries to jump off took some editing also. A. The jump is a blue screen shot. First they filmed the top of the building they wanted.
Then they filmed a man actually running and jumping off of a building. For the rest of the shot the actors were in front of blue screens. B. To get Morpheus coat to fly up behind him as he jumped off the building they attached fishing line to the coat tails and pulled up on it.
C. Then they combined the shot of the rooftop and the actor jumping off the roof to get what we see in the movie. D. They used computer animation software to add the shadows on to the ground and the side of the building. III.
The Matrix multiple agents The scene where an agent is shot at by Neo and dodges all the bullets really fast took a lot of editing also. A. To get the shot of the agent they put a camera on a tripod, which is the stand for cameras that has three legs. Then they filmed the actor moving around the roof top doing various poses and positions. B. Then the film makers took all the shots and combined them into one.
CONCLUSION Special effects have gone to the extreme with computers. The Matrix has many new effects like slowing down and rotating shots, having characters jump buildings, and show one agent multiple times at once.
