Over a decade ago the house phone was such a remarkable advancement where it provided a person to call places over thousands of miles away. Then the ease and comfort of wireless phones came out. Now, the invention of cellular phones (a mobile telephone) is an excellent device to do business or call out for help when you need to. While for others it is a failure, annoying and a cause of accidents. “Today, cellular phones have become a necessity in a person’s pocket.”(VanLaecken, H.).
In According to the site (http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0108074.html), the last survey that was completed contained one million owners in 1999 of cellular telephones. A couple of years before that, cellular phones were very expensive, big, bulky, heavy and as colorless as black brief cases. Nowadays, they are inexpensive as before, small, thin, light and colorful, they were even installed in cars as accessories and part of their luxury. You can even browse on the Internet using your cellular telephone. I particularly chose this topic because wireless communication has been one of the major phenomenons for the past couple of years, it is growing incredibly fast and the future of this technology is unlimited. In my thesis I would like to state the question about the usage of cellular phones. How has the invention of cellular telephones affect our lives? Is it a necessity or a luxury? Never the less, there are necessary situations where the use of a cellular phone is needed, like being lost somewhere, a call has to be made in order to ask for directions, or a life threatening situation. Also, businessmen have the right to use cellular phones because it is crucially helpful and essential for their work.
The Essay on Called My Cellular Phone Krista Call Life
In the essay, "Notes of a Native Son," James Baldwin reluctantly attends his father's funeral. When he is led up to the casket to view his father, he realizes his own mortality and the sad truth of the world around him. He was simply an old man dead, and it was hard to believe that he had ever given anyone joy or pain. Yet, his life filled that room. Further up the avenue his wife was holding his ...
“Today, cellular phones have become a necessity in a person’s pocket.” (VanLaecken, H.) This statement was supported by the fact that cellular phones are part of a human being’s life which provide security during the running of their business, accessibility whenever needed for an emergency and provides necessary communication between others without being tied up to their desks. However, using a cellular phone at all times and leaving it to ring in public is considered irritating, it is also medically proven that it slows down pace makers, shuts them down or even speeds them up causing problems for the patients. In addition, it disrupts navigational systems on an aircraft, which is considered a crime. (Anon., A.)
In recent years, the number of cellular phone subscribers has increased dramatically and so has the number of brain damage cases reported. This makes us wonder whether mobile phones are a cause of brain damage or not. In a recent study about the growing industry of cellular telephones, statistics state that their sales and profits have increased dramatically over the past decade by almost double, however scientists have proven that mobile phones cause cancer. From an article that I have read, a man came on to view on a national talk show and said that cellular phones caused his wife brain cancer. A professional radio frequency, Dr. Moulder stated after several studies that “radio-frequency radiation exposure had geno-toxic effects which directly damage DNA as most carcinogens do or epigenetic activity, thus causing cancer rates to increase without directly damaging genetic material.” (Medical College Of Wisconsin Physicians & clinics) They also stated that “depending on the distance from the tower the phone can release up to sixty percent of its power around the head, which in return can penetrate up to an inch and a half into the human brain.” (Young, V.J.).
Distraction of mobile phones can cause fatal accidents and kill people. It is a serious disadvantage to use your cellular phone while driving. Driving and cellular phones, don’t mix because safety should be your first priority, therefore using it will put your life and other people’s lives in danger. Another valid reason for not using a cellular phone while driving would be that “Most people’s brains are only capable of processing one thing at a time.” An example would be that Kenji (a company salesman) has just made a big sale, where he was in a happy mood and he was going to take his girlfriend out tonight for dinner. As his cellular phone rang, he answered while he was driving. He was shocked to hear that she refused to go out with him tonight because she has a new boyfriend. A second later, his car has rear-ended with a delivery car in front of him. This shows us that cellular phones had gotten the best of the users again. In a statistical report “The National Police Agency reports that in the second half of 1996, drivers using cell phones were involved in 1,100 car accidents. People answering the cell phone topped the accident list, accounting for 42.9 percent of all cases, followed by people dialing a call.”(Juhl, R.)
The Essay on Smartphone: Mobile Phone and People S Lives
Overall, the smartphone can benefit in both the workplace and at home. This phone technology allows users to stay connected to all their contacts and data no matter where they go, which is beneficial to all those people who benefit from convenience. Smartphones help keep people’s lives organized with their linked calendars and planners courtesy of their advanced operating systems, which also cut ...
Since a lot of people around the world carry cellular phones, they tend to become a source of frustration during a movie or in a theatre or opera (Ethiopia, Y.), it should be switched off in order for the audience to enjoy the show, rather then have to get out of their mood to look around and look for that rude person who is causing a lot of noise. As a personal experience, a group of friends were sitting in front of my brother and I at the cinema by a couple of rows. Their cellular phones rang more then seven times. An annoyed movie-watcher got up in the middle of the movie and asked for the manager to make sure they leave the movie or take away their cellular phones. The manager made sure that they left because they didn’t show courtesy to others that paid good money for the movie and were watching with them.
Cellular phones have also managed to change the habits of certain individuals such as raising their voice; therefore they tend to develop bad manners in front of others. An example of this would be one of my next door neighbors, where you can hear him speaking loudly and shouting to his cellular phone whenever he is using it. The development of such a habit annoys the people around and irritates them as well as gives a bad image about that certain individual using it.
The Essay on Cell Phone
As society has developed and steadily increased in its degree of sophistication, so has the number of numerous threats that are always present in the wake of the course of events that span our everyday life (Moeller, 2005). The following paragraphs shall delve into the significance of the numerous implications caused by the excessive and inappropriate usage of one of the most commonly used ...
Parents that spoil their kids by buying them these devices tend not to realize that since their kids are joyfully satisfied, then that’s the only main importance. In fact, the main concern is that their well-being is not taken into consideration as much as their satisfaction. Although, the usage of cellular phones is dangerous and a nuisance, most of the time businessmen need to use them because they are essential for their work and makes them available, easy to contact and reachable at any time. Regardless of using them, they should make use of the free-handset or the voice speaker, which could be used as a health safety in order to keep a person’s head away from such a device. In addition, while driving, pulling over and receiving your call would be much safer for you and others that are with you on the road.
I think cellular phones are great devices but only if they are used in the correct intended way. I think it should only be used for emergencies such as being lost and trying to get help or sending an important message. Also businessmen should be allowed to use them to run their businesses and communicate as well as trying to keep other people’s considerations in mind. Plus using it with the free handset only or the voice speaker as it provides safety against cancer and distraction. They definitely should not be used while driving either because they are a cause of many accidents. In public laces such as the theatres, operas, and any place that requires total silence, cellular phones should be switched off to show courtesy to others. The strongest negative reason that I support against the usage of cellular phones would be the medical health safety reason where it creates awareness and the correct to use such a devices.
