I. The Problem of Traffic in Metro Manila II. A. Background and Motivation for Research| The researchers will be doing a study on the traffic issues in Metro Manila, from the traffic jams during rush hours to the fights that happen because of reckless driving. Their motivation for this research is their daily experiences of heavy traffic in Metro Manila, not being on time due to traffic and their hope of change in this. B. Purpose and Objectives of Research
The purpose of their research is to find a way to improve the traffic conditions in Metro Manila. The researcher’s objectives would be to find the causes of traffic and to be able to find possible solutions to lessen the traffic. The researcher’s will also look for ways to improve the implemented Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) projects. Here are some of the MMDA projects that are currently applied to help the problem on traffic: Color Coding, making the Yellow Lane ruling and construction of overpasses and highways. C. Definition of Terms
Counter-flow – driving at the opposite lane in the wrong direction. Overspeeding – driving past the speed limit.
Defensive driver – a safe driver; follow the road rules.
Traffic jam – heavy traffic.
Rush hour – a specific time of a day wherein traffic is usually at its peak. Bottleneck – a road where all the forks combine into one, resulting into heavy traffic in that spot. Cut – changing lanes for traffic advantage
The Research paper on Traffic Congestion In New York City
Traffic Congestion in New York City Over the past decade, the streets, highways, tunnels and bridges of New York City and the surrounding metropolitan region have become increasingly clogged with traffic. In recent years, business leaders have become increasingly concerned about the traffic congestion in Manhattan and the region. The regional public transit and commuter rail system cannot provide ...

D. Data-gathering Procedures
The researchers would be observing, interviewing and would be using the internet for data-gathering. The interview questions are the following: 1. Why do you think there is traffic here in Metro Manila? 2. How can we lessen it?
3. As a citizen, what can we do to help with the traffic situations in Metro Manila?
III. Data-gathered
Interview
According to the researchers’ interviewees, traffic is caused by undisciplined jeepney, bus and taxi drivers that stop in the middle of the road to take in passengers. There are bad roads that have to be fixed and water lines that need to be reconstructed. This happens repeatedly, therefore making the roads affected a bottleneck. Rush hours just contribute to the problem. There are times when the traffic is too heavy that the cars are completely still for minutes. As a citizen, the best way to help is to be aware of the street rules and follow them. For the drivers, be a defensive driver, it’s best to be safe. Accidents just worsen everything. It affects your time, your vehicle, the other cars and most of all it risks your life. there are other ways to help, like donating funds for development, it is very inconvenient. We know that there is a lot of corruption happening in the Philippines, therefore your donation will most likely go into the official’s “pockets”. Accidents just worsen everything. It affects your time, your vehicle, the other cars and most of all it risks your life. Websites
As stated in the websites that the the researchers’ accessed, with about sixteen million people inhabiting Metro Manila, traffic is in the brink of being unavoidable. There are many projects that the MMDA implement like the Color Coding and construction of highways. They give some relief, considering that Epifanio de los Santos (EDSA) helped a lot in making the traffic flow in Manila easier. They should continue developing road technology to improve the traffic condition in Metro Manila. Pedestrians make the traffic worse, most of them cross streets wherever and whenever they like. No one wants to run anyone over, so this results into valuable seconds being wasted on these pedestrians. Taxi’s cut off one another, slowly moving into the next lane and sometimes forcing their way in. Bigger vehicles like buses and trucks don’t edge, they simply move over anything in their way will be crushed, causing accidents that could’ve been avoided. Traffic lights mean little in Metro Manila. Drivers usually take advantage while it is still in the yellow light, and sometimes traffic enforcers
The Term Paper on Road Rage Car Mph Speed
I'll never forget the rush, the excitement, and the terror of that Saturday night, many years ago. I was very young, just out of College, and for the first time in my life I had a real job. Did what most young men do when they finally find themselves with a little cash, some credit, and a need to make their mark upon the world-I bought a fast car, a Porsche 911 Turbo. I would spend the next five ...
act in behalf of them.
Based on the researchers’ observation, the issue on traffic mostly lies on two things. First it’s the road. Second it’s the people. The minor roads in Metro Manila usually have bad traffic-flow planning. They usually lead to bottlenecks. Although they are just minor roads, in rush hour, almost all of these are full of cars. This is an addition to the traffic. Next are the people. Like what was stated earlier, drivers and pedestrians are undisciplined. The policemen who accept bribes are a major problem too. It’s not only linked to corruption but it also contributes to the lack of discipline of the people because when violators are caught, the most policemen accept the offered bribed. In the end, the violators don’t learn and corruption in the country continues.
IV. Data-analysis
There are many problems that contribute to the traffic in Metro Manila, and the problems work like a loop. A problem will link to another. For example, there is taxi who stops in the middle of the road to take in a passenger. Then the car right behind notices that the taxi would stop and delay him, so the car cuts through the other lane. While cutting, he accidentally bumped the car behind him, leading to an accident, which would further cause traffic. This example starts with traffic and ends with traffic. It’s just like a loop, but how do we stop this loop, or lessen the traffic it causes? Their is no solution to completely eliminate this since Metro Manila is overpopulated. The best thing to do is to discipline yourself. Follow the road rules with integrity. If you are caught, learn from your mistakes and pay the real penalty.
V. Findings
1. The traffic in Metro Manila works like a loop, starting with traffic, ending with more traffic. The starting point of the loop is the natural traffic caused by overpopulation, and if we try to escape this by violating the rules, what we don’t know is that we actually cause more traffic. The violator is the only one the benefits, unless he is caught or his actions cause an accident. 2. The problem is on us, but the solution lies in

us. Violating road rules in Metro Manila seems very ordinary. It happens often and the violators don’t seem to learn. We are the ones affected by the traffic, but unless we do something about it, nothing will change. We should educate ourselves to follow the rules and regulations, that there would be no chaos in the streets.

It’s the jeepneys na laging nagstostop sa gitna ng kalsada, tsaka meron kasing mga Rush hours na nagcocontribute sa traffic. What we can do is educate an ating sarili sa mga rules ng road and follow them. Joy Chua |36| Businesswoman
There are many bottlenecks sa Metro Manila, parang sa Madison lahat ng cars doon nag memeet.
Wilbert Tan |43| Businessman
There are a lot of causes like the roads that are of bad quality and have to be fixed often. Supposedly, we must follow the rules, pero sometimes violators tayo. We must be defensive drivers to avoid trouble and chaos. Kristina Tan |20| Accountant
Public transportation’s uneducated and undisciplined drivers cause the traffic. We can donate to the government for projects, but that is the least convenient way. The best is to be safe in everything we do in the streets. Websites:
