The Story of Elie Wiesel Inhumanity and Losses
Night is a memoir by Elie Wiesel. For some background the during the Holocaust the Nazis killed many Jews and did horrible things to them. Over 6 million Jews died, but many also survived. Elie was one of them and this book is him sharing his story. In this book he describes the inhumanity the Nazis inflicted on the Jews also his losses in personal life and faith.
Elie expresses inhumane acts many times in the book such as treating the humans as animals and taking away their identity. This is shown when he says “where a convoy of cattle cars was waiting. The Hungarian police made us climb into the cars, eighty persons in each one.” I think this is a great example of how they were treated like animals because they jus threw them in to these cars that are meant for animals, and putting way to many of them in there not caring about their health or safety. Also the quote “To the barber! Belts and shoes in hand, I let myself be dragged off to the barbers . They took our hair off with clippers, and shaved off all the hair on our bodies.”(46) Shows how the Nazis took the identity from the Jews because it says that Jews were to keep there hair and beards as a part of their religion. This is 2 of them many inhumane acts of the Nazis.
Also in the book Elie experienced personal losses in family and faith. I think a big loss for him is his father because his father was with him through the whole journey even after being separated from the rest of his family at the beginning. This is shown when Elie says “Since my fathers death, nothing mattered to me anymore.” This shows that after this loss he has given up basically and that nothing else matters because he lost everyone close to him. Also he losses his faith through his journey of the holocaust. At one part he says “I was not denying his existence, but I doubted His absolute justice.” When saying this I think he has not yet given up on god but is starting to loss his faith and question the acts of god. So in my opinion this is some of the examples of Elie’s losses in faith and personal.

Today I discussed some of the hardships the Jews faced while dealing with the Nazis. I mainly discussed the inhumanity of the Nazis and Elie Wiesel’s loss in his personal life and faith. In the end many Jews were killed and badly injured but there were many survivors who live on to share there stories and to inform us of all the wrong doing of the Nazis.
