The Weimar republic was already from the beginning weak, because it had to pay reparations for the First World War, but the real crisis came in 1920s when Weimar republic had to face many problems all together. At first, the basic thing as constitution had many mistakes and therefore government was so weak. However, every stronger party in Reichstag wanted to use the weakness of government to their own good and become the strongest party in Germany, the political chaos and revolts raised in state. Finally in 1923 Germany faced its next problem, when the economic crisis hit Germany.
In early 1920’s, the Weimar government was so weak, and the biggest reason of its weakness was proportional representation of parties in it. Proportional representation means, that amount of members of one party represented in Reichstag, depended on percentage of votes gained in elections. This caused, that in Reichstag were 29 parties represented and therefore we couldn’t speak about compact and solid government, because these parties were different oriented so they often couldn’t concur. Next problem of constitution’s weakness was Article 48, which was enacted in 1919. This article gave president so-called sole power whenever he want. President could use this article in emergency situation and have law of veto. So if president was different oriented than leading party in Reichstag, that could cause many conflicts like later, in 1930’s when was president Hindenburg in charge and the leading party was NAZI party.

Hindenburg didn’t accept any of NAZI law offers, so people started to hate Paul von Hindenburg, because NAZI party was the most popular. Finally, next reason was, that important state institutions like judges and army didn’t cooperate with government. . In early1920s had bigger representation in Reichstag Social democrats. Army led by Paul von Seekt didn’t cooperate with government and also judges, because they were more right- wing orientated, and the proof can be that army didn’t so nothing against right-wing revolts as during the Kapp putsch in 1920 or that judges were much more strict to left-wing deeds as to right-wing. After right-wing revolt, Kapp putch, the judges sent only one person from 700 actors to the prison. These all things caused that the government haven’t got power over situation in state.
Weimar republic had to face also political chaos, which caused many left, but also right-wing revolts and assassinations. Left-wing wanted to take over the government, because they knew about its weakness and Right-wing wanted be in charge too, but they had one more advantage – army stood on they side, so they wanted spread general chaos, to be respected. The biggest Right-wing reason for this spreading of chaos is their hate to Treaty of Versailles signed by government. From Left-wing revolts we know about Spartacists revolt in 1919, when 50000 Spartacists marched to Berlin to takeover the Reichstag, but it was stopped by army and two main characters of the revolt (Liebnicht and Luxembuorg) were killed. Also in 1919 commies took over the Bavaria and a year later they took over the Ruhr.
Then from Right-wing chaos-spreading we know about assassinations around 356 people, including 2 foreign ministers (Erzberger and Rathenau- who signed T of V).
Then doctor Wolfgang Kapp led group to revolt called Kapp putsch in 1920. They were stopped by general strike declared by president Ebert. Finally the main action of Right- wing was, when Hitler with help of general Ludendorf from army tried to force main members of Reichstag to support him (Nov. 9. 1923).
This revolt, called Munich bar hall putsch was put down by army. All these revolts in Weimar republic helped to make a general chaos and made Weimar the power of Weimar Reichstag weaker.

Finally the one of the main problems of Weimar republic was horrible economic situation. Paying of reparations made Weimar budget almost empty, so government decided to stop paying them, but this was mistake, because it caused that in 1923 (Jan.) the French army started to occupy Ruhr. President Ebert declared general strike, but non-working workers had to be paid, so Ebert had to print out more money, which caused big inflation. Weimar mark fell to the 10 per cent of the old value during 6 years. economic situation and poverty of state also ‘helped’ to Weimar republic to became unstable.
Three main reasons why Weimar republic became unstable were, that the economic situation was more than wrong, then that constitution had many mistakes and finally that the political situation caused many revolts, which caused general chaos in the state.
