Robotics competitions are fast becoming more prevalent and popular throughout the world for middle and high school-aged students. These competitions serve as a stepping stone in inspiring future leaders, inventors, scientists and entrepreneurs to expand their knowledge and skills in math, science, and engineering.
Before I move on, let me ask you what you think robotics is?
The most popular statement I get when I tell people I am involved with robotics is.
“So you build robot that have flame throwers, machine guns etc.”
Or, “Can you build me a robot that cleans my house”
The most popular question I get is “Can you build a robot that does all my school, and chores?”
My usual answer is “no”.
That is not what I am involved in but I must say doing that would be pretty fun.
The robotics I am involved in has NOTHING to do with fire, weapons, cleaning etc.
Robotics for me involves weekly commitments which takes a lot of time. I usually create CAD (3D Drawing) models of our robot, and what problems we might run into. I also update our Engineering notebook. So as you can see it takes a lot of commitment. I will talk about this in more detail later.
So right now you might be thinking, ” What is the point of robotics? Do I gain anything from it besides making me look like a total nerd?” Well, there is one true fact in that statement, you will become a “total nerd”. I personally went to one of the biggest “nerd” competitions last year. It was held in Omaha Nebraska. Anyway, what do you gain out of robotics? From personal experience,
The Essay on Robotics Robots Robot Tasks
Robotics Robot is a computer-controlled machine that is programmed to move, manipulate objects, and accomplish work while interacting with its environment. Robots are able to perform repetitive tasks more quickly, cheaply, and accurately than humans. The term robot originates from the Czech word robots, meaning "compulsory labor." It was first used in the 1921 play R. U. R. (Rossum's Universal ...
I hope you see how much fun you can have through robotics. Because of robotics I have become more aware how math is everywhere in this world. I have also learned how to do other things such as, 3D animation (also called CAD), graphic design, and web design. I have also become more experienced with talking to crowds of many people when making alliance choices. Robotics has truly changed my life in MANY areas, and hopefully it will change yours!
